Chairman’s Welcome
Unfortunately, the rally at Norden Farm had to be cancelled due to a waterlogged
field. The weather is something we have no control over.
Luckily the following weekend had mixed weather and 25 units attended the last
meet of the season at Sandford Park. At least Sunday was good weather. The
majority of the campers took advantage of the D.A. money off vouchers for the
Claypipe Pub. We are hoping to hold a rally next year in March and hopefully
incorporate a skittles evening. Also, we hope to have another rally in October.
Booking forms will be available on the website and in Pickets post. Closing dates will
have to be 6 weeks before the rally as we have to pay £25 deposit per pitch at that
time.
The committee would like to thank Ian Fraser for offering to step into the sites
officer role. This is a caretaker position, just so that we can keep things up to date
until someone else offers to do the job. The laptop is being updated with all the new
forms /paperwork and there is a job description if anyone is interested.
At the Christmas lunch Christmas card boxes will be available for you to bring your
cards. Please write your names on the reverse in case the people are not there, and
you have to post the cards. We will be having a raffle to support the Macmillan
Charity. Donations of prizes are always acceptable. Please help us make a profit on
the raffle as we made a loss at Birchwood. It is such a worthwhile cause.
Weekend rallies and THS 2020 – stewards are required. Please see sites list to
see where we need help. We need two sets of stewards for our Easter meet at
Sixpenny Handley. If anyone would like to steward who has not done so before,
please contact me and we can organise a weekend where you can steward with
someone else, so that you can see what is required.
To date we have not found a replacement treasurer. It is imperative that we find
one in order for the DA to continue functioning. We have many people co-opting
over to our DA as they enjoy what we do. So please if anyone out there is interested
please contact myself, Tony or Tina. We will have a few vacancies on committee
at the end of April so we will be starting soon putting in a nomination form for
anyone to complete who is interested. If you are interested to find out what is
involved and how you can help, please contact myself or Tony Tester.

Colin & I had a lovely letter from HQ this month. We have been awarded the
Certificate of Honour for services to the Camping & Caravanning Club. We are very
proud of this and hope to receive it at the SWRSM at Wrantage in July 2020. The
booking form for this meet will soon be on the website. If you want to be
included in the NFDA block booking area, please send your form plus cheque
payable to the Camping & Caravanning Club New Forest DA or BACS payment
with reference SWRSM to Dee our Secretary by end of April 2020 or give to her
at our AGM (26th April at Birchwood).
On behalf of New Forest DA I would like to congratulate Christine Cole, a DA
member, on her success at re-election for 3 years as a National Councillor. She also
obtained the second highest number of votes.
Colin & I hope to see many of you at the Christmas lunch but to everyone may
we wish you a very Happy Christmas and Happy New Year, where we look
forward to a new camping season.

Seasons Greetings
In Praise of our Wonderful NHS A big thank you to all in this Friendly Club who have sent messages of support and Get Well wishes. Thanks to our wonderful NHS Brian is still with us and determined he will be fit to do Birchwood THS next June. This year following a meal at Birchwood he had a discomfort in his chest which we put down to the new anti-inflammatory tablets he had been told to take by our GP. An appointment was given and following this a chest X-ray, Blood test and ECG all the next day. A visit to Poole's "treadmill where a quick thinking Cardiologist told him to listen to his body and do nothing strenuous pending a Cardiac Catheter investigation at Bournemouth. On 28th Oct I left him for the 4 hour slot only to receive a phone call to say he was being admitted immediately pending transfer to Southampton for open heart surgery. WHAT! This very fit man now on a ward with a mobile heart monitor. To say we were all in shock would be an understatement. 11 days in Bournemouth having further investigations, transfer by ambulance to Southampton and on 5th Nov his heart was removed, 4 bypasses performed and the main valve replaced. How wonderful is that. Unfortunately it did a blip next day needing CPR and on point of return to theatre decided perhaps it had better beat as it didn't want to go back there again. Another 7 days and we were on our way home via the New Forest as he hates the A31. Unfortunately for some unexplained reason he gradually declined and following a 999 call was admitted to Poole hospital where it was discovered he has an infection of unknown origin. We do need to keep that ED dept at Poole!! Have another at Bournemouth by all means but do not deprive us of our wonderful service at Poole. 48 hours on and he is better than when we first brought him home following Intravenous antibiotics. The morale of this story is :- Please do not ignore something you may think is indigestion!!
Next we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Camping in 2020. (No cards this year as I have a patient to care for. No Christmas Function but we plan to be with you for the Dinner Dance with Brian able to Dance! Janet & Brian Setchell
May I just take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy
and healthy 2020.
Hopefully I will catch up with a few of you at the Christmas Dinner.
Don’t forget to register your email address with me to continue to receive the
Pickets Post from March onwards. ([email protected])
Best wishes from Dean & Ruth Mueller-Davies.
