Operating instructions – Pneumatic pressure cone 12.2013
The setup of the pneumatic pressure cone system on mounting plate (HUBER article no. 704942):
Components included in delivery:
1: Switch-on valve to shut off air supply and deaerate the system
(manual lockable protective device)
2: Filter pressure reducer for
- manual inlet pressure regulation (typically 0,5 – 6,0 bar)
- pressure air filtering
- condensate outlet (manual)
3: Pressure sensor (24 V supply voltage; PNP) for
- actual pressure indication (digital)
- input and monitoring of minimum compressor pressure (typically 0.5 bar)
3a: Electric connection cable of pressure sensor (length = 2,5 m, 24 V supply voltage)
4: Switch valve for active pressure cone release during machine overload and maintenance and
inspection work
4a: Electric connection cable of switch valve (length = 2,5 m, 24 V supply voltage)

Incoming and outgoing pneumatic lines are not included in the scope of supply of
the mounting plate.

NOTICE
The pressure of the pneumatic pressure cone must be set during the start-up phase.
Specific sludge properties must be taken into account when setting the load stages.
Presetting the pressure without prior verification of the resulting operating
behaviour of the screw press may lead to a loss in screw press performance.
It is essential that the electrical switchboard and control panel is designed in compliance with the specifications made by HUBER SE. Otherwise, perfect functioning of the mounting plate cannot be guaranteed. Minimum requirements are described under the respective control philosophy..
Safety instructions:
The mounting plate must be installed inside a lockable control cabinet to prevent faulty
operation by untrained staff.
WARNING
Depressurize the system prior to starting with any maintenance or inspection work
to prevent getting caught and injured by the accidentally moving pressure cone.
Drive the pressure cone out of the sludge cake by means of the shutoff valves (4).
Turn the knob on the switch-on valve (1) to shut off the air supply and deaerate the system. The knob is lockable to prevent an unintentional restart.
Shutoff devices (padlocks, control panel) are not included in the scope of supply of the mounting plate.
Maintenance instruction:
Carry out the following maintenance work monthly:
- Function control of switch-on valve, filter pressure reducer, pressure sensor and switch valve
- Drain condensate at filter pressure reducer

2 Fast commissioning with factory setting
The SDE1-... is delivered with the following factory setting:
switching behaviour: threshold comparator
switching characteristic: NO (normally open – contact)
hysteresis: 0.2 % FS (full scale).
If you wish to use the factory setting, you can define a switching point for Out A orOut B as follows:
When the power supply is switched on, the SDE1-... will automatically be in theRUN mode (basic setting). If you are not sure whether the SDE1-... is in the RUNmode, hold the EDIT button down for 3 s. The SDE1-... is then in the RUN mode.Switching points can be set manually or taught.
You can set a switching point manually as follows:
1. In order to activate the EDIT mode, press the EDIT button. [Out A] flashes.
2. If you wish to set Out B, press the B-button (DOWN). [Out B] flashes.
3. Press the EDIT button twice. SP field flashes.
4. Set the desired switching point with the UP/DOWN buttons.
5. Hold the EDIT button pressed down for 3 s. The SDE1-... is then in theRUN mode.
You can teach a switching point as follows:
1. Apply measuring pressure (relative pressure p1 / differential pressure p1 – p2).
2. In order to accept the measured value as the teaching point (TP1) for Out A,first press the A-button, then also the EDIT button ( [A] will flash).orIn order to teach the measured value as the first teaching point (TP1) for Out B,first press the B-button, then also the EDIT button ( [B] will flash).
3. Repeat points 1 and 2 for the same output. The second teaching point (TP2)will then be accepted and the new switching point (SP) will become valid.The SDE1-... then returns to the RUN mode.
For the “threshold comparator” setting, the following applies: The new (taught)switching point (SP) is derived from the average value of both teaching points(TP1, TP2).Calculation formula: SP = 1/2 (TP1 + TP2)If both teaching points are the same, the following applies: SP = TP1 = TP2.

3 Function and application
The SDE1-... is intended for the monitoring of pressure alterations in pressure linesystems or terminals and for converting pneumatic pressure values into electricalsignals which can be used for control or regulatory functions. Measurements arecarried out using a piezoresistive sensor element with a following electronicevaluation unit. The measurement result is shown numerically on the display.Interfacing to higher-level systems is provided by one or two switching outputs oranalog outputs, depending on type.
The product versions P2, 2I and N2 (see Fig. 2) provide two switching outputs(Out A/Out B). Other product versions have only one switching output (Out A). Theswitching outputs can be configured as NC and NO contacts. The desired switchingpoints can be defined as threshold comparator or window comparator. The productversions FQ4, HQ4 and WQ4 (see Fig. 2) provide two pneumatic ports for differen-tial pressure measurement (measuring pressure p1 – reference pressure p2). Ifthere is no tube connection for p2, the reference pressure is the ambient pressure(relative pressure measurement). The product versions PU, PI, NU, NI (see Fig. 2)have an analog output which transfers the measured value as an electrical signalproportional to pressure.
4 Conditions of use
WarningDepending on the functions of the machine/system, the manipulation of signalstates can cause serious injury to human beings and damage to property.
Note that if the switching behaviour of the switching outputs is modified inthe EDIT mode, the new status will be effective immediately.Activate the password protection (security code) in order to prevent uninten-tional modification by unauthorised third parties (see section 6 under EDITmode).
NoteIncorrect handling can result in malfunctions.

Compare the maximum values specified inthese operating instructions with youractual application (e.g. operating media,pressures, forces, torques, temperatures,masses, speeds, voltages).
Take into consideration the ambientconditions at the location of use.
Please comply with national and localsafety laws and regulations.
Remove all transport packing such asprotective wax, foils (polyamide), caps(polyethylene), cardboard boxes.
The packaging is designed so that itsvarious components are recyclable(exception: oiled paper = non-recyclablewaste).
Use the product in its original state. Unauthorised modification is notpermitted.

The adapter has two small spigots on its rearside for pressure connection.1. Make sure that either the spigot (a) or the
corresponding hole (b) on the unit is fittedwith an O-ring for sealing.
2. Check that the O-rings are firmly in place andremove any unnecessary O-rings.
3. To mount the unit, push the mounting screws(connected to the mounting brackets) out-wards and tighten to 0.5 Nm 3)
1. Check that the moulded seal (c)on the front side of the adapter isfirmly in place.
2. Make sure the sealing surfacesbetween the SDE1-... and theadapter are clean.
3. To mount, insert the SDE1-... intothe adapter, press on it andtighten mounting screw (d) to1.0 Nm.

Warning Use only power units which guarantee reliable electrical isolation of theoperating voltage as per IEC/DIN EN 60204-1. Observe also the generalrequirements for PELV power circuits as per IEC/DIN EN 60204-1.
NoteLong signal cables reduce the immunity to interference.
Make sure that the signal cable is not longer than 30 m.

Preparing for commissioning
The basic status is called the RUN mode. This shows the current measured value.
The RUN mode can be accessed from other modes:
– By pressing the EDIT button for 3 seconds
– If a monitoring time expires (timeout: see section 13, Menu structure)
Switch on the operating voltage. The SDE1-... is then in the RUN mode.
Check the functions of the SDE1-...
NoteAn overview of the menu structure can be found in section 13. Note that onlyproduct versions P2, 2I and N2 are equipped with two switching outputs (Out Aand Out B). Other product versions have only one switching output (Out A).
RUNmode
Shows the measured value (relative pressure/differential pressure) and the signalstatus of the switching outputs (Out A/B). A flashing value indicates that themeasuring range has been exceeded.
Pressurize the SDE1-... with differentpressures.The number and bar display will changeaccordingly.

SHOWmode
If the SDE1-... is in the RUN mode and you press button A or button B (only appliesif there are two switching outputs), the SHOW mode will be activated and the firstswitching point (SP or SPmin) of the corresponding switching output (Out A orOut B) will be displayed. If you continue pressing the same button, the currentsettings of that switching output will be displayed one after the other as thebutton is pressed. The SHOW mode shows the following settings and values:
Settings for Out A/Out B (Out B only if there are two switching outputs):
– switching function [threshold/window comparator]
– switching point [SP] or [SP] [min] and [SP] [max]
– hysteresis [HY]
– switching characteristic [NO/NC].
The program then returns to the RUN mode.
Press the A-button several times in succession and check the current valuesand settings of Out A.

EDIT mode
The EDIT mode enables the following settings:
– switching function (threshold value or window comparator)
– switching points [SP] or [SP] [min] and [SP] [max] and hysteresis [HY]
– switch type [NO/NC] (normally open/closed)
– unit of measurement (kPA, psi, bar) and security code (lock).
Setting the switching behaviour of the switching outputs
WarningDepending on the functions of the machine/system, the manipulation of signalstates can cause serious injury to human beings and damage to property.
Note that if the switching behaviour of the switching outputs is modified inthe EDIT mode, the new status will be effective immediately.

TEACH mode
Enables teaching of switching points within the maximum setting range(see Technical specifications).
Before teaching make sure that the desired switching function (window orthreshold comparator) and the desired hysteresis are set in the EDIT mode(see under EDIT mode).

For teaching the switching variables:
1. Apply first measuring pressure (relative press. p1 / differential press. p1 – p2).
2. In order to activate the TEACH mode and to accept the measured value as thefirst teaching point (TP1), first press the button for the desired switching out-put (Out A/B), then press the EDIT button while holding down the switchingoutput button.
3. Only with active security blocking – [lock] flashes:
Press the UP/DOWN button until the desired security code is set. Press the EDIT button.
The switching output symbol [A] or [B] will flash.
4. Apply second measuring pressure (relative press. p1 / differential press. p1 – p2).
5. In order to accept the measured value as the second teaching point (TP2), firstpress the button selected under 2., then press the EDIT button while holdingdown the switching output button. The new switching point (SP) or the newswitching points (SPmin and SPmax) will then become valid. The SDE1-... is thenin the RUN mode again.

MINMAX mode (extreme values)
The minimum and maximummeasured pressure values are saved in the SDE1-...The MINMAX mode displays the lowest and highest pressure values up to the timeof displaying. The minimum/maximum values are lost when the power supply isswitched off.

In order to activate the MINMAXmode, press buttons A and B simultaneously.The lowest pressure value up to that moment will then be displayed(min /P.Lo).
Press buttons A and B again simultaneously. The maximum pressure value upto that moment will then be displayed (max /P.Hi).
Press buttons A and B again simultaneously. The unit then returns to theRUN mode.
Resetting the minimum/maximum value memory
Hold the A and B buttons pressed down longer than 2 seconds.

Or switch off the power supply.
Test run
Carry out a test run with various pressures to ascertain whether the SDE1-...switches as desired.

7 Operation
WarningExcessive internal heat will damage the SDE1-...
Avoid high cycle frequencies with large pressure amplitudes.
Otherwise the permitted maximum temperatures of the materials used willbe exceeded.
Reset the SDE1-... to the factory setting
(also if the security code cannot be found)
NoteThe current settings will be lost after a reset to the factory setting.
If necessary, make a note of these settings before a reset.
In order to reset the SDE1-... to the factory setting:
1. Switch off the operating voltage.
2. Press all three setting controls simultaneously (UP/DOWN button and EDITbutton) and switch the operating voltage on again.
8 Care and maintenance
Cleaning:
Switch off the following sources of energy before cleaning the exterior of theunit:
– operating voltage– compressed air/vacuum.
If necessary, clean the exterior of the SDE1-...
Soap suds (max. +60 °C), petroleum ether and all non-abrasive cleaning agentsmay be used.
