-The University of Toledo Police are fully certified and
sworn State of Ohio Police Officers.
-UTPD Officers serve 31,000 citizens within our campuses.
-UTPD Officers work hand-in-hand with surrounding
jurisdictions for incidents and investigations when the need
dictates.
-UTPD Officers actively patrol all roadways on campus as
well as adjacent roadways to the campus with full arrest
authority. Off-campus police activity is authorized through
the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office as Special Deputy
appointments for all officers.
-Advancement opportunities exist within the department
with ranks of Detective, Sergeant, and Lieutenant.
-UTPD has a rich history as a Police Department dating
back to the 1960’s.
-All non-command officers are dues-paying union members
of The University of Toledo Police Patrolman Association.

Minimum Requirements
-21 Years of age on or before written examination
-Valid driver’s license
-Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification is pre-ferred but not required
-Education required: 96 quarter hours or 64 semester hours of college credit with 2.0 GPA or higher
-Education Substitution: Education minimum may
be waived if applicant has 2 years of continuous active full-time state certified law enforcement experience with a state recognized law enforcement agency
Selection Process:
-Written examination, physical fitness examination, interview panel, Chief and Deputy Chief of Police interview assessment, thorough background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological/personality examination, medical physical and drug screening.
-If hired probationary period lasts one year from date of appointment.
-Successful completion of probationary period includes a rigorous field training program and exercised ability to follow all rules and regulations set forth in UTPD Policy. Failure to meet these standards will result in termination of employment.
