a) Excessive leak from expansion drain pipe(hot water)
COMPLAINT
The requirement for
balanced pressure to mixing
point is not adhered to.
WHAT TO DO
FAULT-FINDER
PROBABLE CAUSE
Balance hot and cold supply. If this is impossible, fit a spring-loaded non-return valve (after vacuum breaker) to the hot outlet of the cylinder. This achieves temporary prevention of back pressure.
b) Excessive leak or continuous drip from expansion drain pipe (cold water).
The geyser thermostat is not
switching off.
Switch off the electricity supply to the geyser. Turn on the hot tap for a few seconds. Wait five minutes and check whether the drip has stopped – if not, the valve requires service or cleaning.
There is foreign matter on the main seat, regulating piston or diaphragm is damaged or worn

The main seat, regulating piston or diaphragm is damaged or worn
Replace valve
c) Full bore flow through expansion drain pipe but no cold/hot water when installation is complete.
COMPLAINT
The valve direction is incorrect.
WHAT TO DO PROBABLE CAUSE
Reverse valve. Water must flow in the direction of the arrow on the body.
d) Insufficient or no cold/hot water.
In-line strainer or Moderate/Rapid Rate/Velocity 400/Velocity 600 strainer is blocked.
Clean either strainer.
This is inadequate system pressure.
See installation requirements.
Undersized piping.
Increase pipe size.
Stopcock in main supply is partly or fully closed.
Open stopcock fully.
Installed the valve incorrectly.
Reverse valve. Water must flow in the direction of the arrow on the body.
The diaphragm is damaged
Replace valve

e) Water hammer during valve opening.
COMPLAINT
The pipe is loose.
WHAT TO DO PROBABLE CAUSE
Secure all piping.
Air is trapped in the pipeline.
Fit an automatic release valve.
Excessive water velocity.
Increase the pipe size.
Loose washer plate assembly in the stopcocks.
Secure the loose washer plate assembly on all stopcocks.
An excessive pressure drop in the system.
Increase the pipe size.
Undersized piping
Reverse valve. Water must flow in the direction of the arrow on the body.
Incorrect valve installation.
Increase the pipe size.

result of incorrect installation or normal wear and tear are not covered.
f) Vibration in system.
COMPLAINT
Faulty spindle.
WHAT TO DO PROBABLE CAUSE
Replace valve.
Faulty washer in the tap stopcock or mixer.
Locate and replace washer.
Excessive water velocity.
Increase the pipe size.
Faulty outer ‘O’ ring.
Replace ‘O’ ring.
Inlet pipe under-sized.
Increase the pipe size.
g) Valve is leaking between body and top-cover.
