ROTARY SHAFT SEALSProcessing on CNC-machine
Merkel Xpress manufactures customer-specific seals within a few hours. The CNC-processing saves tool costs and allows minimum order quantities.
For short notice orders, Merkel Xpress (member company of Freudenberg Sealing Technologies) uses cutting-edge manufacturing technologies to produce seals within a matter of hours – tailored to customer requirements, from individu-al prototypes to short-term replacement parts to mass production in affordable batches.
Process Seals utilizes specific high-per-formance materials to create seals and molded parts for process engineering applications. Parts of these materials can be used to fabricate semi-finished products for machining. Thanks to Merkel’s Xpress-Service, components made of the same elastomeric materials, with predictable characteristics in a specific setting, can be machined. This serves to minimize costly downtimes and allows development projects to proceed without delays.
The cooperation with Merkel Xpress also allows us to deliver seals for the process industry with branch-specific approvals even in the smallest batch sizes – in original Freudenberg materials, at extremely short notice, and without tooling costs. Even original Simmerrings can be machined: The Rapid Machined
Simmerring® (RMS) completes the com-prehensive Merkel Xpress portfolio of over 250 designs and profiles.

SPECIFIC SOLUTIONSCustomer-specific & individual
In addition to standard components, we also have developed numerous customer-specific sealing solutions. As illustrated in the following examples, we will work closely with you to design and deliver a custom-tailored sealing solution that fulfills your unique and challenging specifications.
HTS II with shortened clamping ring
In cooperation with a customer from the beverage industry we created a special sealing solution, based on the trusted and patented design of the HTS II.
Special requirements with regard to easy assembly and disassembly called for a shortened clamping ring, which substan-tially reduced the pressing force needed and greatly simplified installation. As a further advantage, this design avoids potential contact corrosion between the clamping ring and the housing.
In addition to the optimal media resis-tance offered by the FDA-compliant material, the patented sealing lip design also ensures a low friction torque.
Separable shaft seal
A joint development project with a manu-facturer of high-performance mixers and agitators produced a split lip seal for the mixer's shaft. This lip seal consists of four PTFE-segments and one O-ring, with two sealing segments set at right angles always forming a ring.
This innovative solution out of FDA-com-pliant materials can be installed without disassembling the gear. In addition to that, it is extremely wear resistant.
The front and rear sealing segments are made of PTFE Y002 and the O-ring of an FDA-compliant elastomer.
The contours of the sealing lip are based on the proven HTS II geometry, utilizing a modified version of the same functional principle.
