Local Torbay restaurateur Rehan
Uddin “stole the show” whilst collect-
ing his winner’s award at the Meridian
Grand London for Channel S TV’s
(SKY 814) ‘Catering Circle Restaurant
Talent Show Awards’.
Social media has lit up with posts con-
gratulating the Bombay Express owner
on his success, as well as his inspira-
tional speech highlighting the lack of
recognition & celebration for women in
the industry.
As the first Indian restaurant to host
events celebrating International Wom-
en’s Day & address the gender pay
gap, Rehan addressed the absence of
women winners at the awards, & the
necessity for equality.
Rehan thanked his Bombay Express
customers, team, & the Asian
Restaurant Owners Network (ARON) –
expressing gratitude for their continu-
ous support & valuable involvement
while he pushes to “change the game”.
Also highlighting the rise in vegans &
important awareness days, the entre-
preneur challenged the industry to
step up & address these often-
overlooked communities.

EXPRESS IS SUPPORTING MENTAL
HEALTH AWARENESS
This year the topic is stress & how to
look after your mental health; encour-
aging the public to make time to talk
with friends, family or colleagues.
Bombay Express restaurant on Bel-
grave Road is collecting donations for
the Mental Health Foundation, as well
as holding events for the campaigns
‘Curry & Chaat’ & ‘Tea & Talk’ -
providing a safe space to open up &
#BreakTheStigma.
The restaurant is also supporting the
Torbay Homeless Service - spending
time with the residents as well as
serving their popular set menu.
The centre is a 24hr supported hostel
service which offers help to single
homeless people & rough sleepers in
Torbay; assisting moves into more per-
manent accommodation, running activ-
ities to help develop life skills & self-
esteem, promoting healthy living &
creating opportunities for people to
talk about their challenges. The ser-
vice also runs rough sleeper outreach
& drop-in sessions at the hostel for
people living on the street.
Restaurant owner Rehan Uddin
praised the “incredible & inspiring”
team at the centre & was quick to vol-
unteer when Mental Health Practi-
tioner Emily Robertson sent out re-
quests to local businesses asking for
any donations they would be kind
enough to offer - “this is a such a
treat; we have all been really looking
forward to the event! It is incredibly
important for our residents to feel val-
ued within the community, so to share
this generosity & kindness is wonder-
ful”.
Mr Uddin, the founder of Asian Res-
taurant Owner’s Network (ARON) is
passionate about breaking stigmas
“we’d like to thank the residents &
staff for such a warm welcome &
encourage more local businesses to
provide positive opportunities & expe-
riences for this grateful community.
This is the first time a British-Indian
restaurant has publicly raised
awareness about mental health - in
the Asian community nobody really
talks about it; today also highlights a
positive move in Asian culture to open-
up, share & support each other”.
