REGENT NEWS Volume 12 Issue 33 Friday 10th June 2016
Dear Parents,
The Regent School Fun Day 2016
Another eventful day in Abuja and it all happened at
The Regent School!
Following a great deal of preparation on the Friday
before the event with tents tables slides, bouncy
castles etc being placed in situ for the next day, those
still here at school until past 9pm were praying for a
rainless night and day. The Saturday morning
gathering of PTA members, stall vendors, security
and staff breathed a sigh of relief that it was indeed
dry but slightly overcast. There was a sense of
optimism that the 2016 Fun Day would be dry
without any rain!
By around 10.00am The Regent School was ready to
receive the large crowds already waiting to get in.
Indeed, it was fabulous to see the crowds continue to
drift in right up to 4.45pm. Whether the target of
over three thousand people was reached or not does
not take away from the fact that so many people,
friends of Regent and guests came in their hundreds
to support the day and had lots of fun.
The colourful spectacle on the field was amazing and
the children (and even some big children the Mums,
Dads and adults) jumped, splashed and bounced on
the many different inflatable activities. The ‘Haunted
House’ once again proved to be a success as it
attracted many children and adults!
All the other rides were
busy throughout the
day. There were some
new ones such as the
giant water slide, the
paddle boats, a tall
climbing wall and the
popular bungee jump. Favourites such as the electric
train and the tunnels amused the children.
The Farm House,
Puppet and the Magic
Shows attracted many
people to the Hall not
only see the
entertainment but to
seek a short rest bite
from the heat outside.
The Year Group games also proved to be a real hit
with the children and especially Valerie who won the
266 lollipops but
guessing the right
number in the box!
Thank you to all the
teachers and some
parents generously who
‘volunteered’ to man
their rides and events in
the course of the day.
The more mature members of the population on the
day took the opportunity for retail therapy! A big
thank you to all the outside vendors for supporting
the day and giving many an easy shopping
alternative.
Once again the Second Hand and Tombola Stalls
attracted huge crowd looking for a bargain!. Again,
thank you to parents who helped on these stalls.
The PTA Food area was full of tempting goods and
seeing the crowds hovering around them certainly
proved that it was a huge hit. The PTA was so
grateful to parents who brought food in for the day.
Another thank you. Thank you to Mrs A’s Food Stall
and to Drumstix’s for their excellent offerings on the
day.
The Raffle drew a large excited crowd at towards the
end of the day.
All prize winners should please redeem their
prizes at the Reception Office latest by Friday
17th June. All unredeemed prizes will be forfeited.
The winners went away with some fantastic prizes of
airline tickets, fridges, cookers, meals and vouchers to
name a few. A huge thank you needs to go to the PTA
for the hours of preparation that was done

aimed at furthering its acknowledged academic
excellence by being the leader in the
implementation of cutting edge technology for
teaching and learning, whilst ensuring that the
learning process remains enjoyable and fulfilling for
every child.

if you haven’t seen the results" - Gaby Natale
As a part of their career coaching, The Brain
Academy Agents in the Lower Primary had a
meeting with The Regent School Abuja’s
Administration Manager, Mrs Odinaka Anionwu.
She shared her career ambitions with the agents. A
trained lawyer with a wealth of experience in the
business and administration sector, Mrs Odinaka
inspired the agents by discussing different career
options and highlighting what it entails to join the
business world. Many of the agents desired to open
their own business when they grow up. They were
very excited to hear the first-hand experience and
thanked her and her team for all the hard work in
making sure The Regent School continues to be a
thriving school.
FATHER'S DAY - SUNDAY 19th JUNE 2016
Year 2S will have their Father's Day Assembly on
Tuesday 14th June 2016 at 8.15am. Father's of
children in 2S are invited and encouraged to come
along and celebrate with their children. We
understand that fathers have exceptionally busy
schedules and therefore we are providing notice so
that busy schedules, business meetings or travel will
not be affected.
So what date is Father's Day this year? Father's Day
will fall on Sunday June 19 2016 in the UK, as well
as a host of other countries around the world.
Year 6 Trips
This week has been busy and exciting for the children
in Year 6 as they went for trips to some interesting
establishments in Abuja. The first trip was to NEXT
Cash and Carry where they were given a tour of the
various departments within the store by the Manager
and visited their bakery where the much loved NEXT
Family Loaf is produced.
The trip would not have been complete without some
shopping! It was good to see the children put their
Maths skills to test to ensure that they bought what
they could afford and work out their change.
The visit to The Central Bank of Nigeria was just as
exciting. During the tour of the currency museum, it
was lovely to see their fascinated faces at the elaborate
display of all the currencies in the world. Our tour
guide also had to answer questions on the value of the
Nigerian Naira – way to go, young economists!
Our sports loving children enjoyed spending time at
The Abuja Stadium. As you must have guessed, it
was an activity based trip. The children had the rare
privilege of running some races in the Main Bowl on
the international tracks!
Other facilities they toured were the Main Bowl,
swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts - where
they saw some matches being played.
So far the children had seen end - products during
the week, so today they visited an indigenous tissue
roll company – Banrut Rolls - tucked quietly away
in the industrial layout to see the production of the
tissue paper into different purposes. Again, the
children were awe
-stricken, but at
the sizes and
efficiency of the
machines
responsible for
rolling and
packaging various
tissue products.
It will come as no surprise at all when one of our
pupils eventually makes a career choice because of
the seeds sown in their hearts during these trips.
