Dear Family,
From time to time your child will bring home his or her very own
reader to share with family and friends. These are copies of books he
or she has alreadyread in class. With your help, these bo
oks can
provide your childwith important practice in
reading and a
meaningful shared reading experience.
Each book concentrateson certain sounds and contains words
commonly found in beginning reading materials.
You may want to take some time every day to read each story with
your child. Here are some suggestions you
may find helpful:
• Encourage yourchild to read the story to you.
• Read each page aloud as you run your hand under the words.
Leave out some of the words listed on page 11 of the boo
k for
your child to provide.
• Open to the list on page 11 of the book. Say a word and ask your
child to point to it. Repeat with other words. Onceyour child feels
comfortable with this task, point tothe words in random order
for your child to read.
• Choose one of the words from the list and have your child find it
each time it appears in the story. Ask your child to read the
sentence in which it appears.
• Enjoy the book!
Sincerely,
4

Atentamente,
