The DEMU rebar coupler system is ideal for 100% load-bearing through fastenings in reinforcing steel. • The system is available in the following diameters (Ø): Ø12, Ø16, Ø20, Ø25, Ø32 and Ø40. • The bar anchors are available as type 4010 (for Ø40 type 2010), bar ends are available as type 2020 and with a flattened end of type 2020-P.
In combination with the type 2000 assembly tool and an electric appliance, the 2020-P can quickly be screwed into the female socket bar. • Tolerances: 4010, 2020 en 2010 (Ø 40): + 5 mm / - 2 Øk, conform NEN 6146 “Steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete ”. • The anchors can be bent on request. So as not to damage the thread or the connector socket, there is a minimum bend size (Lb). Bending is
done by means of a 5*Ø former. During bending elongation (V) occurs and this results in a Y dimension of (L+V=Lb+Y). See also page 10. • It is also possible to supply a U-bend. Contact our sales department for the possibility. See also page 11. • If the height-to-height distance between multiple inserted bar anchors is small, it is possible to screw the male connector bar in by means of the DEMU 4015 connector. See also page 9. • Anchors can also be supplied to non-standard lengths. • DEMU specials: 4030/4035/2040. See also page. 8. - 4030 is made from reinforcing steel with a connector socket at either end. - 4035 is made from reinforcing steel with a connector socket at one end and a rolled thread at the other. - 2040 is made from reinforcing steel with rolled threads at either end.
DEMU rebar coupler systems for reinforcing steel meet the requirements of BRL 0504. The alignment, cutting and bending of the bar ends and bar anchors meet the requirements of chapter 2 of BRL 0503 “Tack welded reinforcing mesh, reinforcing structures and bending and interweaving”. The reinforcing steel of these connectors is of FeB 500 HWL and FeB 500 HK quality and meets the requirements of chapter 2 of BRL 0501 “Reinforcing steel” and hence of chapter 3 “Glossary of terms” and chapter 5 “Requirements of NEN 6008”. See our KOMO-certificate K-7044. In NEN 6008 (July 2008) the quality indicators HWL, HK and HKN are invalid and now there are ductilityclasses A, B en C introduced. Applied reinforcing steel has the quality B500B or B500C.The DEMU rebar coupler system is also authorised by the German building authorities, permit no. Z-1.5-139.
All joints may be used in tensile, compressive and shear applications. The bar ends must be tightened to the prescribed torque (Nm), see also page 6 and 7. In order to determine the working value for strength of the steel in the anchor, a material factor ym must be applied to the elastic limit. See NEN 6720 chapter 6.2 “reinforcing steel”. To determine the minimum anchorage length, please refer to NEN 6720 chapter 9.6 “Length of reinforcing steel anchorages”. The type 4010 is suitable for through fastening in combination with DEMU type 2020 als 2020-P and for constructive anchorages. The 4010 female socket bar anchors must always be checked in accordance with NEN 6720 chapter 9.6 “Length of reinforcing steel anchorages” and 9.16 “Embedded anchors”.DEMU rebar coupler system is developed for making mechanical connectors with KOMO-certificated reinforcing steel, quality FeB 500 HWL and FeB 500 HK conform NEN 6008. The system is applicable in category 1: mainly statically loaded constructions conform BRL 0504. The DEMU rabar coupler system is tested wit a tension ripple of 2 oa = 60 N/mm² at 2 milion tension changes and an upper tension of 0.6 Re:k. Certificate K-7044.The diameters 20 mm (M24) and 25 mm (M30) are also applicable in category 2: dynamic loaded constructions conform BRL 0504. The Demu rebar coupler system round 20 and 25 mm is tested with a tension ripple of 2 oa = 66 N/mm² at 2 milion tension changes and an upper tension of 0.6 Re:k. Certificate K-53316.In NEN 6008 (July 2008) the quality indicators HWL, HK and HKN are invalid and now there are ductilityclasses A, B en C introduced. Applied reinforcing steel has the quality B500B of B500C.
Various accessories can be used for fastening the bar ends to the shuttering, including types 2250, 2280 and 2600. The plastic sealing cap 2244 provides protection penetration by dirt and concrete water. As extra protection, we also advise that the internal thread be greased.For tightening to the correct torque, DEMU supplies a torque wrench ( see also page 13).

ASSEMBLY
The female socket bars and male connector bars must be stored in such a way that they are free of dirt allowing one to be screwed into the other without a problem.Besides attachment to the shuttering, the accessories also provide protection. For further protection against penetration of dirt and concrete water, we also advise that the inside of the tube be greased.The male connector bars must be screwed in using a torque wrench set to the correct torque (see also pages 6 and 7).
WORKING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Fit against or on the shuttering. 2. Preparation for assembly. 3. Screw in male connector bars using a torque wrench set to the correct torque (TQ, see also pages 6 and 7).

The Suprotek protective cap optimises safety for workers on the
site. The chance of injury is considerably reduced. Under policy
rule 3.16 (section 4) the use of fall protection where there is an
increased chance of a fall onto projecting parts below 2.5 meters is
compulsory.
The cap improves visibility of bar ends on badly lit working floors.
It also allows increased visibility for crane operators.
Provided it is undamaged, the protective cap can be used several
times. For more information, see the use folder.

DEMU - Reinforcing bar couplers 2005
The DEMU reinforcing bar coupler 2005 is a simple system for joining reinforcing bars with a diameter of 10 - 40 mm. The coupler is suitable for connecting reinfor-cing steel, where it is not possible to have continuous bars. (for example when the fixed bar is already in place and there is insufficient space for hydraulic swaging press). The reinforcing bar coupler is easy to install: simple, quick and safely. When tightening the lockshear bolts the bolts will shear. The bar ends are supported within the coupler by two serrated saddles, and as the lockshearbolts are tightened, the conical ends embed themselves into the bar. As this happens the serrated saddles bite into both the bar and the shell of the coupler. The reinforcing bar coupler 2005 is suitable for all kinds of reinforcing steel. Type 2005-ETS is suitable for connecting bars of the same diameter. Type 2005-ETT is suitable for connecting bars of different diameters and type 2005-ETH can be used at the edge.

GENERAL
The reinforcing bar coupler 2005 are designed and manufactured in accordance with BS and ISO 9001. The 2005-ETS for Ø 10 to Ø 28 is tested by the DIBt (approval No Z-1.5-10) and the other dimensions are tested by the BBA (approval RBAC No. 98/102). In addition the coupler has been tested to show compliance with the following international design codes: BS5400, BS8110, ACI 318, DIN 1045, BBK 94 (German code) en BBK94 Volume 22 (Swedish code).
CERTIFICATION
STRENGTH
The failure load is 115% higher than the characteristic yield strength of grade 500 reinforcing bar. Do not require bar end preperation to form threads, or bar rotation.
ACCESSORIES
The lockshearbolts of the couplers can be tightened with a ratchet wrench (with heavy duty sockets) or an electric nut runner. Note: Impact tools should not be used to tighten lockshear bolts.

Place the coupler over the end of the bar. Finger tighten the lockshear bolts onto the bar. Check the alignments and make any necessary adjustments.
