Merici Chapel… Have you stopped by Merici Chapel this past week to talk with Jesus? Why not? Be honest with yourself — too busy with worldly things? Jesus even asked His apostles on Holy Thursday night, “could you not even spend one hour with me?” Will He ask you that same question when you meet Him face to face? What will your answer be?

St. Charles Borromeo Church September 1, 2019
Omigosh! This Monday, September 2, is Labor Day—the last official holiday for summer 2019. We will have a holiday schedule at St Charles: there will be just one daily Mass on Monday, at 8:30am. The Parish Office will be closed on Monday, so if you need
something (shopping gift certificates for your Labor Day picnic?) stop after Mass today.
One Sunday per month, St Charles Cyrenian Ministry makes 500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless. During the month of September, we will conduct a Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive to help the St Charles Cyrenians with this corporal work of mercy. Please leave your gifts of Peanut Butter & Jelly—and sealable plastic sandwich bags—in the blue bins in the church lobbies. “When you feed those in need, you feed ME, says the Lord.”
On Monday, September 16, we will welcome a new member to the parish pastoral staff. Her name is Cindy Zalek and she will serve us full-time, as Brian Pelcin does, as a pastoral associate. Cindy is a long-time St Charles parishioner who has been involved in a variety of our ministries including lector, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, teacher, and coordinator of our Catholics Returning Home Program. Cindy is a graduate of Nazareth Academy, Ursuline College, Cleveland State University, and St Mary Seminary. Cindy has earned Master’s degrees in both Public Administration and in Theology. Cindy has successfully completed the requirements of the Cleveland Diocesan program and has been fully certified by the Bishop as a Lay Pastoral Minister. Most recently, Cindy has been an administrator with the American Red Cross. She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and people-skills to her new job. I know that you will welcome her in her new role as a pastoral associate. We are currently sorting out her responsibili-ties and areas of ministry. Welcome, Cindy Zalek, to the St Charles pastoral staff.
The first gathering of the St Charles 2019-2020 Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will be Monday, September 9, at 7:00pm in the John Paul II Room (second floor) of the Parish Activities Center. Those interested in joining the Catholic Church are invited to attend. If you are unbaptized, or baptized in another Christian faith, or baptized Catholic but have not received the Sacraments of Reconciliation or Eucharist, then RCIA is for you. No formal commitment is expected at this time. As the Gospel puts it, “just come and see.” Father Lou Thomas and Deacon Dan Galla coordinate the RCIA process. The beliefs, practices, and customs of the Church are shared and explained. Just leave your name and contact information at the Parish Office so that we can properly prepare. Please offer this RCIA invitation to others who might be interested.
There was a lot of information in last week’s bulletin about an Irish Tour for next year, 2020: Monday, August 24 to Friday, September 4. Please let me know this week if you might be interested in going along. Stop by or call our Parish Office (440-884-3030) with your name, contact information, and number inyour party.
You will find a September Parish Activities Calendar in this bulletin. Please “clip-and-keep” it as a handy reminder of the many things happening around St Charles over the next thirty days.
R.C.I.A.The process whereby an individual is transformed by the Holy Trinity into Christ's body, the Church,
and therefore, is Catholic. If you or someone you know is not Catholic but would like to fully accept Christ’s invitation to “live in my love,” please contact Fr. Louis Thomas here at the parish or email him at [email protected]. RCIA begins, September 9th, and will continue on Mondays concluding on Pentecost. https://stcharlesonline.org/rcia-1

We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book & Directory for the church. This book is being provided and direct-mailed to each family at no cost to our church, and it is again being subsidized by local businesses that advertise.
Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children still at home, and are they all included in your membership record?
