I highly appreciate your constant support to Quectel’s success in 2014 and look forward to another prosperous year with you all in 2015.
In 2014, Quectel achieved 55% sales volume increase and 30% sales revenue increase. Our WCDMA module portfolio has been largely enhanced after the introducing of new Intel based UGxx series, in parallel with the maturity and wide market acceptance of Qualcomm based UC15 and UC20 series. We received three AT&T certificates on our UC20, UC15 and UG95, which shows our long term commitment towards US market. Our new GSM modules based on new MT6261 are already in mass production and the longevity of this new GSM chipset series enables us to promise our customers of longer supply. The new compact M66 module is very exciting to both customers and us. Our development of LTE modules for China, US and Europe’s markets are making significant progress. The successful receiving of TS16949 Certificate opened the door of the massive automotive industry, which is the most challenging segment we need to conquer in the future.
In 2014, we established two new overseas offices in USA and Brazil, which further enhanced our global coverage. Avnet Memec became Quectel’s distributor in Europe and Avnet America signed distribution contract with Quectel. Together with some new local distributors, Quectel and its
partners is building a better and stronger customer service network. In China, we further enhanced our leading position by having won several biggest POS and Smart Metering customers. We are glad to win leading positions in some overseas markets, although that is not enough.
Looking at 2015, I am confident that we would see fast growth in Europe, India, Taiwan and some other areas, while we will maintain the leading status in China’s market. We will further enhance our WCDMA by adding one more global band product. We are going to invest more on LTE segment as the adoption scale of LTE on M2M will be beyond our today’s imagination.
Quectel strives to build itself into a leading module supplier with strong and complete portfolio and excellent technical services so that we could support our customers to become more successfully. Connected and communicating “Things” are everywhere and will be even more pervasive in the imminent future. Undoubtedly, the “Internet of Everything” (IoE) is one of the most substantial technology trends for 2014 and beyond. IoE involves billions of devices or “Things” connected over the Internet. These devices are all continuously generating data, sensing, creating and consuming events. All the while, they are controlled remotely. From modernizing cities through intelligent buildings and transportation, to industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, automated cars, farmlands, and industrial plants, the IoE is changing the world as we know it.

In a recent survey of global IT professionals, nearly all of them said that LTE is vital to the success of the Internet of Things. Why? Because LTE has the potential to become like “super-Wi-Fi” in that it is fast becoming universally available to connect millions of devices to the internet that have never been connected before.
LTE is much more efficient than predecessor technologies, enabling operators to reduce the cost of delivering data services below that of 3G and 2G. Since spectrum is an operator’s most precious resource, this efficiency is driving operators to aggressively deploy LTE networks so they can move subscribers off their 2G and 3G networks and
on to LTE as quickly as possible. Some countries, including USA, Japan, and Korea, have already achieved nearly 100 percent LTE coverage. This wide LTE coverage moves the industry beyond smart phones and creates a new paradigm for the creation of new machine-to-machine and consumer electronics devices.
Coupled with the increasing availability of LTE networks globally, this irreversible secular trend is creating new opportunities for Quectel to expand the machine to machine technology for the Internet of Things market. As an expert on cellular modules, Quectel expands its product portfolio to include the LTE modules.
Quectel’s new generation multi-mode LTE module, EC20 series, is adopted the 3GPP Rel. 9 LTE technology and delivers 100Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink data rates as well as fallback compatible with Quectel UMTS/HSPA+ UC20 module in the compact and unified form factor, providing a flexible and scalable platform for migrating from UMTS/HSPA+ to LTE. EC20 contains three variants EC20-A, EC20-C and EC20-E, which makes it backward-compatible with existing EDGE and GSM/ GPRS networks to ensure that it can connect even in remote areas devoid of 4G or 3G coverage.
Moreover, with a footprint matching existing 3G products, Quectel LTE module supports design simplicity by enabling one device design for multiple
networks as well as easy network migration without expensive hardware revisions. The new and simple to deploy solution enables high bandwidth computing for connected devices and lightning-fast speeds for seamless coverage when roaming across wireless networks worldwide. The particularly low latency of LTE network systems allows M2M applications to provide an unprecedented, ultra-reactive user experience and facilitates entirely new business models where real time responsiveness is required.

Quectel continued fast development in 2014 especially sales growth exceeds 50% for European, Asia Pacific and American market. These great successes encouraged our strong investment in existing and emerging markets. For instance, our several types of modules have gained AT&T certification. These modules have been well received in American market and have been praised by our customers for their quality and performance. And these modules have entered American market by our European and Asian Pacific OEM customers
exporting their products into American market. This excellent partnership helped us further explore our American market. Through many years’ persistent efforts, we have made great process in automotive, security and smart metering and won big customers in these applications. In order to provide more localized support to our customers and partners and have an ear for them, we have established two overseas offices in American, respectively located in USA and Brazil.
2014 was a rich year for the cellular module portfolio. Quectel not only brought several types of 2G, 3G and 4G modules into the market and also expanded its products into Tele-health application. The introduction of Quectel UG95 UMTS/HSPA+ module, one of the smallest modules in the market, starts the era of 3G module with compact form factor and enables our existing customers to migrate from 2G to 3G quickly. The mass production of our 4G modules makes us truly penetrate into 4G market and excited about the market potential.

Meanwhile, Quectel optimized its distribution system. We recruited new distributors and eliminated some unqualified distributor to avoid them bringing the negative effects on the market. Through the long-term cooperation, the partnership between Quectel and its distributors become more trusted and closer and distributors heartedly felt Quectel consistently try its best to protect their benefits. It is that makes our distributors remain strong initiative and the willing of growing with Quectel. In addition, we conducted large-scale marketing analysis and promotion according to different areas and markets and made clear marketing and sales strategy for our distributors at the different levels to help them better understand M2M application trend. Based on these analyses, our distributors can assist customers to achieve mass production in the shortest time.

The most important pillar of our success is the correct analysis on M2M applications. We realized that Automotive, Telematics, Metering, Wireless POS, Tracking are most predominated application fields in the Europe market.
So, we have started to manufacture our modules under TS 16949 Certification for automotive standard and this have opened up new opportunities for us, now our customers in Italy and Germany were able to conduct their designs on this field. Metering application is another big market present in most regions of Europe, Quectel has won several on this market specifically from UK and Poland and there are also designs from various regions in Europe and we expect that there will be
growth in this market for us in 2015. In this region, Quectel has also taken part in other various applications and one of them is Telecom where Quectel is inside the Arduino project. The feature of our cellular module called SSL has also helped us expand our customer base in Security and Healthcare industry. In the Benelux region the biggest market is shared by Metering and Tracking applications. We have successfully developed projects that are involved with Tracking applications thanks to the “Low Power Consumption” solution from GSM/GPRS M95, GPS L70 and GPS/GLONASS L76 modules and this will grow in the coming year since one of our customer has a good volume project involved with Netherlands biggest operator, KPN. POS application has shown
very good potential in regions like Belgium, France along with East Europe specially in the southern part of East Europe which is the Balkan region where our customers have won Tenders in this peninsula and Quectel has a very good market share more specifically in Bulgaria wherein their biggest market is POS and followed by VTS application. The second biggest market in France is Tracking and Quectel has been applied to and designs are growing which helped us to grow our business in France.
Connected cars and wearable devices are emerging trends shaping the development of the global wireless M2M market. Adoption in Europe is boosted by the imminent implementation of the eCall mandatory. This is the reason why Quectel has prepared eCall ready modules. The global automotive industry is no longer planning, but executing strategies to make always-on connectivity an integral part of the driving experience. new generation LTE modules are based on Qualcomm MDM9x15 chipsets. The MDM9x15 chipset, as compared with previous generation LTE solutions, uses 30 percent less power and enables product designs with 30 percent less printed circuit board area, allowing for smaller and thinner form factors, while its multimode capability enables seamless connectivity between LTE TDD and DC-HSDPA networks so devices can connect locally or globally on the fastest available 3G or 4G/LTE network.

NORTH AMERICAN MACHINE TO MACHINE (M2M) COMMUNICATIONS MARKET
Quectel expanded its cellular module offering in the North American market by introducing three new WCDMA modules all of which received AT&T certification. These modules have been well received in the market and have been praised by our customers for their quality and performance. Quectel continues to develop its reputation for quality products and excellent technical support.
In 2014 Quectel has seen success in North America in several vertical markets including Smart Grid, Smart City, Tele-health, AVL, PERS, and Energy Exploration. This success spans our product portfolio as our GNSS, 3g and LTE modules have been designed into a variety of customer solutions
that will be deployed in 2015. Quectel continues to pursue opportunities in the top vertical markets in North America including Security, Transportation, Healthcare, Energy, and Financial Services. The introduction of our LTE product line will allow us to target additional markets including Automotive and Mobile Computing.
The coming transition from 3G to LTE by US carriers will provide Quectel a significant opportunity expand its market share in North America. In 2015, we can be sure the results will continue to be positive and that we will keep expanding our penetration in the region. Latin America is a huge region and Quectel wants to build a close relationship with our customers.
According to GSMA Intelligence study in Q2 2014, M2M communications will account for at least 10 per cent of the global mobile market by 2020. It is forecast that cellular M2M will account for almost one billion (974 million) of the 10 billion total mobile connections expected by 2020 if the market develops at its current trajectory.

And, UC20-G is also under testing by other several Brazilian companies like CAS and M2M Telemetria in Smart Metering application. Meanwhile, we have signed distribution agreements with companies in Brazil as there are enormous growth opportunities for M2M in this region. We launched seminars, participated in exhibition shows with local partners and customize firmware to match specific customers’ demands. We believe that leveraging

LTE- enabled IoT Market is on theTrack
The Internet of Things is the network formed by objects with defined identities, connected via smart interfaces and exchanging data with other objects or users. In the IoT, “things” are expected to become active participants in business, information and social processes where they are enabled to interact and communicate among themselves. M2M refers to technology for connecting machines to machines (wireless or wired) enabling them to communicate with each other. M2M is considered an integral part of the Internet of Things (IoT) and brings several benefits to industry and business in general as it has a wide range of applications such as industrial automation, logistics, Smart Grid, Smart Cities, Health, Security, etc. mostly for monitoring but also for control purposes.
At the end of 2014, the number of M2M connection is increased from 195 million to 250 million. According to the M2M Adoption Barometer 2014
Report from Vodafone, the world's 3rd-largest mobile telecommunications company, predicts the global IoT market share would hit $103million by 2018 from $44 million in 2014.
Quectel is dedicated to supply GSM/ GPRS/ UMTS/ HSPA(+)/ LTE modules, designed for long-distance data transmission. With the fast development of IoT application, we have seen more and more demands on the mini-sized modules. Quectel has introduced the currently smallest M66 GSM/GPRS modules on the market and UG95 UMTS/HSPA module with extremely compact size, ideally suitable for IoT application. M66 module is integrated Bluetooth functionality that features short-distance data transmission with low cost. In the future, we will continue to develop the higher-level integrated and richer-functional modules to meet the requirements of IoT market.
Although Long Term Evolution (LTE) seems excessive to machine-to-machine (M2M) users, it offers many benefits, including reduced operation costs and “future proofing”. A couple of factors make LTE intriguing for M2M applications. One is that its spectral efficiency and other attributes reduce the operator’s cost of delivering service below that of incumbent technologies such as GPRS, CDMA2000 1X and UMTS. Further, some users are considering LTE as the future-proof option, especially those whose devices need to remain in the field for five, 10 or 15 years. For them, paying a premium for LTE hardware could be less expensive than replacing 2.5G modules when operators shut down those networks. M2M adoption of LTE won’t begin to ramp up sharply until 2015. Operators, vendors and 3GPP are looking for ways to slash LTE’s hardware premium to spur M2M adoption.
At the beginning of 2015, we unveiled our first Multi-mode LTE module EC20 . Adopted the 3GPP
Rel. 9 LTE technology, it delivers 100Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink data rates and is fallback compatible with Quectel UMTS/HSPA+UC20 module in the compact and unified form factor, providing a flexible and scalable platform for migrating from UMTS/HSPA+ to LTE. As M2M communications typically require low levels of data on an occasional basis, low power, and low cost, the complexity of LTE meant that it was not viable for many M2M communications applications. Now that LTE Category 0 (Cat-0) has been incorporated into the 3GPP standards the possibility of using LTE as a main bearer for M2M communications has come a step nearer. Quectel will invest more to define a new profile of LTE in the forthcoming Release 12 specification. The profile is termed ‘Category 0’ (Cat-0) and promises to address the major challenges facing operators and smart meter manufacturers. >>
With the popularization of intelligent mobile terminal, the Internet of Things (IoT) caught the public’s imagination and machine-to-machine technology moved into the mainstream. People expect to experience convenient life relying on IoT and M2M technology.
LTE has been developed explosively all over the world. Smartphone, tablet and data card have taken the lead to use LTE technology on consumer applications, which surprisingly stays ahead of traditional Apps. In addition, a plenty of IOT applications have sprung up including traditional M2M. More and more commercial applications have been innovated by taking advantage of LTE high data rate, there are many examples: vending machine monitoring with video commercial display, retail terminals displaying product demonstrations or live helpdesk, remote wireless surveillance cameras, telehealth terminals providing remote diagnosis and healthcare, facial recognition systems used in homeland security, and wireless router for in-car infotainment systems.
For instance, the LTE connected car market is continuing to evolve, which offers a range of infotainment options. This service will let users

LTE is destined to be the future of all cellular networks and the last network standing as 2G and 3G networks are eventually phased out. Successful operators have generally shifted away from traditional voice & text packages to focus on data, and from unlimited data to data sharing, with simplified data packages. They already consider LTE as the natural choice for long term service applications, especially for the IOT application. LTE provides good network foundation for IOT, while the abundant applications brought by IOT accelerate the sustainable development of LTE, the relationship between the two is becoming closer and closer.

4G LTE has become the fast growing standard in the history of telecommunication. Although the different LTE frequencies and bands used in different countries will mean that only multi-band wireless terminals will be able to use LTE in all countries where it is supported, 644 operators in 181 countries are investing in LTE, while 393 commercially launched LTE networks in 181 countries (APR, 2015). LTE is the fastest developing mobile system technology ever.
Driving for the evolution of wireless broadband technology is the increasing expectations for speed, bandwidth and global access. The primary drive towards LTE for operators is the need for more capacity, performance management and improved efficiencies to lower delivery cost. LTE is the next step in the user experience. Specific M2M applications will be either created or enhanced to take advantage of the available bandwidth. So far,

The development of LTE technology and standard presents two opposite trends, one is tending to CAT6/ CAT7/ CAT9/ CAT10 or higher standard of high speed applications, which is collectively called
LTE-A. It emphasizes user experience, hardware performance promotion, multimedia application extension and multiple interactive services evolution at extreme data rate, typically smartphone, Tablet, video surveillance and wireless mutilmedia terminals; the other turns to traditional M2M application and low speed CAT1/ CAT0/ CATM standard of IOT, which is eventually evolved to LTE-M. It highlights low speed, low power, long lifecycle, low cost, strong signal cover and anti-jamming capability, represented by AMI, object tracking and environment monitoring.

M72 is a high-performance and cost-effiecient Dual-band 900/1800 GSM/GPRS module based on the latest MTK chipset. Its slim and compact design are perfect fit for size-sensitive products.
M72 with LCC castellation package technology are surface mount package devices, which use metalized pads on the sides of the package. This kind of packaging makes it easily embedded in other applications and is ideally suitable for large-scale manufacturing which has the strict requirements for cost and efficiency.
By adopting the highly integrated chipset solution, M72 module contains built-in Baseband, RF, Memory and PMU functional units in its compact form factor. Combining the industrial standard interface with GPRS Class 12 enabling speeds up to 85.6 kbps for in both up and down link, M72 offers extremely fast data speeds and high reliability for SMS and data transmission even under rugged conditions.
Built-in unique Over-the-Air firmware update by means of QuecFOTA software allows M72 to update the firmware remotely.
With its compact profile, extended operating temperature and integrated TCP/IP stack, M72 is perfect platform for both industrial and household applications such as smart meter, wireless POS, automotive and security system.

UC15 is a cost effective UMTS/HSDPA module featuring a maximum data rate of 3.6Mbps downlink and 384Kbps uplink. Designed to be compatible with Quectel GSM/GPRS M10 module in the compact and unified form factor, it provides a flexible and scalable platform for migrating from GSM/GPRS/EDGE to UMTS/HSDPA. L20 is a GPS receiver module with the highest performance which embeds the SIRFstarIVTM chip solution with the new ROM2.2 version. With 48 PRN channels, L20 acquires and tracks satellites in the shortest time even at indoor signal level. With a compact profile of 16.0 x 12.2 x 2.4mm, it perfectly suits for vehicle tracking, personal tracking, asset tracking, connected PND, security device and other industrial applications.
L20 supports aided-GPS function without the necessity of data download from server since it captures ephemeris data from satellites locally and predicts ephemeris out to 3 days.
The moudle contains an active jammer remover which tracks and removes up to 8 CW (Carrier Wave) type signals up to 80dB-HZ(equals to –90 dBm typ.) signal level. This feature has greatly improved the navigation performance.
L20 also provides an important function which named GPIO Baud Rate Detection. With GPIO settings, L20 can be configured to output NEMA at standard baud rates.

L26 is a single receiver module integrated with GLONASS and GPS system. It provides simultaneous GPS and Compass GLONASS openservice L1 reception capability. With 33 tracking channels, 99 acquisition channels and 210 PRN channels, L26 can acquire and track any mix of GPS and GLONASS signals.
Compared with using GPS only, enabling both GPS and GLONASS generally doubles the number of visible satellites, reduces the time to first fix and increases positioning accuracy, especially when driving in rough urban environments.
Combining advanced AGPS called EASY™ (Embedded Assist System) with proven AlwaysLocate™ technology, L26 achieves the highestperformance and fully meets the industrial standard. L76, the smallest GNSS module, is a single receiver module integrated GLONASS with GPS system. It provides simultaneous GPS and Compass GLONASS open service L1 reception capability. With 33 tracking channels, 99 acquisition channels, and 210 PRN channels, L76 can acquire and track any mix of GPS and GLONASS signals.
Compared with using GPS only, enabling both GPS and GLONASS generally doubles the number of visible satellites, reduces the time to first fix and increases positioning accuracy, especially when driving in rough urban environments.
Combining advanced AGPS called EASY™ (Embedded Assist System) and proven AlwaysLocate™ technology, L76 achieves the highest performance and fully meets the industrial standard. Additional feature of embedded logger function called LOCUS allows L76 to log position information to internal flash memory at default intervals of 15 seconds and provide typically more than 16 hours log capacity without adding cost.
Its super performance makes L76 ideal for automotive, industrial PDA, consumer and industry applications. Extremely low power consumption makes it easier to be applied to power sensitive devices, especially portable applications.

L80 is an ultra compact GPS POT (Patch on Top) module with an embedded 15.0 × 15.0 × 4.0mm patch antenna. This space-saving design makes L80 the perfect module for the miniature devices. Adopted by LCC package and integrated with patch antenna, L80 has exceptional performance both in acquisition and tracking.
Combining advanced AGPS called EASY™ (Embedded Assist System) and proven AlwaysLocate™ technology, L80 achieves the highest performance and fully meets the industrial standard. EASY™ technology ensures L80 can calculate and predict orbits automatically using the ephemeris data (up to 3 days) stored in internal flash memory, so L80 can fix position quickly even at indoor signal levels with low power consumption. With AlwaysLocate™ technology, L80 can adaptively adjust the on/off time to achieve balance between positioning accuracy and power consumption according to the environmental and motion conditions.

Quectel provides compact, fully functional and easy-use EVB kits for customers to evaluate the performance of GPS/GNSS modules. With the sophisticated design of PCB layout and RF signal trace, our EVB kits can ensure high positioning capability of GPS/GNSS modules. Micro-USB interface provides both power supply and high-speed data transfer. UART interface on the EVB kit also supports data transfer. It easily implements the shift between the two modes with just the push of Serial Point Alternative Switch. LEDs are designed to display the status of data transmission and positioning. In addition, some functional key such as STANDBY, FORCE_ON, TIMER and RESET are equipped on EVB kit. Technology QuecLocator: It is Quectel cellular positioning technology. Quectel provides a server with powerful database, which collects amounts of global base station information for fast positioning.
QuecCell: This function can scan the detailed information about the base station, lock the specified GSM frequency, and forbid the specified operator. With this feature, customer can choose the network they expect in the certain place.
OpenCPU: GSM/GPRS module acts as a main processor. Customer can design their applications conveniently based on it.
RIL Driver(for Android or WinCE): Radio Interface Layer (RIL) is a software layer which provides an interface between operating system (Android/ WinCE) and radio hardware.
QuecFile: Module flash file system access function. QuecFile can expand the storage space of external MCU.
Jamming Detection: It allows Quectel module to detect GSM jamming signals. When jamming is detected, Quectel module sends a notification to MCU, reporting the presence of active jamming of the GSM mobile communication network.
PING: The PING command is used to test the ability of the source computer to reach a specified destination computer. It is a simple way to verify that a computer can communicate over the network with another computer or network device.
eCall: A European initiative to combine GSM and GPS for vehicle emergency service is eCall, a project by the European. Commission to provide rapid assistance to motorists involved in a collision anywhere in the European Union.
FOTA: Firmware Over-the-air. Quectel provides QuecFOTA (for 2G modules) and DFOTA (for 3G modules) functions for users to upgrade firmware remotely without the need to bring device to a service facility, which simplifies and accelerates upgrading procedure.
Antenna Supervisor Function: Quectel’s GPS module L26 and L80 support Antenna Supervisor Function, which is designed to detect different external active antenna status including connection, open circuit and short circuit.
UC20/EC20 GNSS: UC20/EC20 includes a fully integrated global navigation satellite system solution that supports the latest generation gpsOne Gen8 of Qualcomm (GPS and GLONASS). It also supports Qualcomm gpsOneXTRA technology (one kind of A-GNSS), which will download XTRA file from the internet server to enhance the TTFF.
DTMF Codec: Dual-tone multi-frequency. Quectel provides an economical solution to embed the encoding/decoding DTMF in Quectel module. DTMF is used widely in the applications of security monitor, wireless communication, vehicle remote control, etc.
Dual-SIM: Dual SIM Single Standby. It can save customers’ cost.

Users can choose QuecLocator function when they need Location Base Service.QuecLocator is an assisted positioning system beside GNSS. When devices are in some challenging signal environments, such as indoors or GNSS signal is not available, QuecLocator can provide position information in these situations.
QuecLocator also can be a cost down solution for some specific application. When an estimated position is enough, a GNSS module can be retrenched.
When using QuecLocator function, user only need to send one AT command. When Quectel 2G/3G module receives the AT command, it will send the cells information of base station to Quectel’s cloud server. The server will check its database to get the location information of the cellular base station and send it back to the devices.
QuecLocatoreCall is a European initiative intended to bring rapid assistance to motorists involved in a collision anywhere in the European Union. It combines cellular and GPS technology for emergency service. In case of emergency, the in-vehicle eCall system (IVS) automatically initiates an emergency call carrying both voice and data (including GPS location data) directly to the public safety access point to determine whether rescue services should be dispatched to the known position.
The EU is aiming to have a fully functional eCall service to be in place throughout the EU by 2015. The project is also supported by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). Some car makers such as BMW, PSA and Volvo Cars have already integrated eCall function into their products.
In Russia, a fully interoperable system called ERA-GLONASS is being deployed, with the aim to require an eCall terminal and a GPS/GLONASS receiver in new vehicles.

At present, cellular networks are widely available, covering a large geographic area, which enables QuecLocator service to estimate the position on the basis of surrounding mobile network information easily. The service can be supported where 2G/3G network coverage is available.

When prompted by a request from the PSAP operator for MSD, the IVS connects the IVS data modem transmitter to the input of the speech coder and mutes any speech from the motorist for the duration of MSD transmission to prevent it from interfering with the eCall data transmission. Alternatively, it can be the IVS that may trigger the MSD transmission. In this case, the IVS asks the PSAP to request an MSD transmission.
The first operation mode shall be referred to as the pull mode whereas the latter one is the push mode. Essentially, push mode is realized by a request from the IVS to the PSAP to pull the MSD.

Since GSM network signal is weak in some places, the transfer of information across GSM/GPRS network and the GPRS transmission speed could be slow and GPRS connection drops frequently. QuecCell function can scan the detailed information about the base station, lock the specified GSM frequency, and forbid the specified operator. With this feature, customer can choose the network they expect in the certain place.

FOTA updating process consists of three stagesGenerating the update package. The initial stage includes generating a software updating package containing bug fixed or new features. The users only need to download a delta upgrade package from the server instead of the whole part of firmware package to the modules. The delta upgrade package is a differential part between current firmware and target firmware, so it is very small. It helps the device to get the upgrade package in the field quickly over WCDMA/LTE network of the mobile operator.
Step 1: Get the delta firmware package from Quectel.Before upgrading the device, user needs to check the current firmware (the old one) by executing AT command “ATI”. The user also needs to know the target firmware (the new one) which needs to be upgraded. Quectel provides a delta package tools. The user puts the current firmware and the target firmware into following page then it will create a delta firmware package for upgrade.
Step 2: Put the delta firmware on FTP server.When using the DFOTA function, user needs to setup a FTP/HTTP server by himself, for Quectel does not provide a FTP/HTTP server. Then put the delta package on the server, and record the
FTP/HTTP path. The module will get the delta package from this path.
Step 3: Execute AT command “AT+QFOTADL”.After putting the delta firmware package on a FTP/HTTP server, the user needs to execute AT command “AT+QFOTADL”, then the module will download the firmware from FTP/HTTP server over the air and upgrade automatically. Please refer to figure below.
By using DFOTA, the users only need to download the delta package into the module, which contains only the differences between the old and new firmware versions, thus reducing the amount of data transmitted and accelerating the speed of firmware upgrade.
Some of Quectel Modules open its internal source for users to develop their applications. This function is called OpenCPU™. Based on it, users can create innovative application and download it directly into Quectel module to run. In the OpenCPU solution, GSM/GPRS module acts as a main processor. So, GSM/GPRS module with OpenCPU solution will facilitate product design and accelerate the application development. And it also can save the cost of the product.
The core system of OpenCPU is released by Quectel, which includes the core binary file and library file. Quectel also provide Software interfaces to licensed embedded application developers. It includes audio API, FCM API, system API, Peripheral API, timer API, and debug API, standard C library API, and so on. Users can develop their applications with those API on Quectel’s modules.
Compared with traditional solution, OpenCPU solution can make hardware design easier for the developer. The figure below shows the differences between them.

Core System is a combination of hardware and system software of GSM/GPRS module. It has a built-in ARM processor, and has been built over Nucleus operating system, which has the characteristics of micro-kernel, real-time, multi-tasking and etc.
OpenCPU RIL, an open source layer, is embedded into User API layer. With OpenCPU RIL, developer can simply call API to send AT commands and get the response when API returns.
AT commands related to SMS and telephone are packed to the RIL APIs by default. Besides, developer can also easily add a new API to implement an AT Command according to the open source of RIL.
Quectel modules also support some enhanced features under OpenCPU. Such as Jamming Detection, TCP/IP protocols, eCall/Era-Glonass, QuecFOTA, QuecLocator, Audio Playback/ Audio Recording, QuecFile, POP3 and SMTP, etc. OpenCPU software also has steady flash protected mechanism.

Radio Interface Layer (RIL) is a software layer which provides an interface between operating system (Android/ WinCE) and radio hardware.
After user installed and configured the RIL driver successfully, SMS, voice call, data service functions can be used in the operating system.
Quectel 2G/3G module support RIL driver for Android and WinCE OS. The picture below is RIL driver structure for Android OS. And RIL driver for WinCE is similar with Android OS.
The RIL in Android locates between Kernel and Application Framework. It is divided into two parts, one is RILD and the other is Vendor RIL. RILD is responsible for the communication between Socket and Application Framework. Vendor RIL is responsible for communication with Radio via AT command channel and Packet data channel (PDCH). AT command channel is used for communicating with Radio directly and PDCH used for data service.
The RIL module is used to communicate with the vendor RILD. The Phone module directly provides phone function interfaces to application user who can call them to realize the phone functions.
RIL
RIL driver for WinCE system transforms the RIL request from application layer into AT commands, and then sends them to module. It needs to enable some system components under the options of kernel, before using RIL driver in customer’s system board.
The software packet of Quectel modules provides USB driver and RIL driver for WinCE6.0 and provides the design guide for driver installation step by step. RIL driver can transform the RIL request from application layer into AT commands, and then send them to module after it is installed successfully.

Functional Test ensures that module has all the required functionality that is specified within its functional requirements. The chart below describes the main functional tests carried out on each module firmware.
Quectel has a systematic standard on module Stress Test which covers Power ON/OFF, Voice call, Data call, SMS, PPP and TCP/UDP, etc. We program an amount of test scripts and develop testing tools to implement the stress test. Each module has to run all related stress-scripts continuously to ensure it works steadily.
All Quectel modules must do Field Test in different places and on different networks in order to ensure the module performs well in different environments. Field Test contains static test and dynamic test. Both of static test and dynamic test contain basic functional test and stress test which are defined according to test experience. Static Test ensures the module works with kinds of SIM cards in different places and networks. Dynamic Test shall be carried out in moving environment such as in car, in subway, etc.
Quectel modules are used in a wide range of M2M applications, such as automotive, smart metering, telematics, control & monitoring, tracking & tracing, payment, security, etc. To ensure the module can be flexibly used in different kinds of applications, we program an amount of scripts to simulate customer applications which named Customer APP Test.
Software testing includes functional test, stress test, field test and customer application test. Quectel also develops test tools and uses scripting language to realize these tests.
