Students Attend AAUW Book Sale By—Mr. Ufford
February is I love to Read Month, and on Friday, February 1st, 43 Eveleth – Gilbert students from grades 7 – 12 went on a field trip to the book sale, at the Hibbing Armory, sponsored by the American Association of University Women. When we arrived, the students jumped right in looking for books, helping each other, and other customers find books. We brought 43 students and we bought 443 books. I heard about 12th grade students offering to buy books for 7th graders who ran out of money. I saw our students helping the workers organize the tables as they searched for books. I am very proud to show off our students at this event.
I always receive complements about our students from the members of the AAUW working the sale, as well as the other customers. The excitement of our students is a big topic of conversation for everyone at the book sale. I couldn’t begin to guess how many people approached me to complement the school district that is willing to provide this opportunity to for its students. The faces of the workers and other customers reflected the excitement of our students. They truly appreciated having these young people be a part of this wonderful event.
As the students finished up and began to buy their books, the sat in groups to talk about the treasures they had found. People continued to comment on the excitement our students showed and how polite and helpful our students are. This experience reflects the positive way in which our school community affects Eveleth – Gilbert students.

combined total of 2400 Accelerated Reader points in the fifth and sixth grades as well as the seventh and eighth grades.

Mrs. Jensen’s fourth grade class performed a skit recently representing Taxation without Representation.
The students drew a letter to determine what group they would portray: a colonist, a loyalist, members of the parliament, and of course the King! The King, played by Molly Thiel would then tax the colonists taking away some of their tokens and rewarding the loyalists with candy. The King could even tax the colonists for complaining too much.

Special Project for Third
Graders
Bob Hendrickson, parent of 3rd grader Jordan Hendrickson, provided materials for a special project for Mrs. Young’s class work on.
Mr. Hendrickson hand-cut wood into the shape of a hat rack and the students were able to paint and design the wooden rack however they wanted to.
This was an awesome project and the students were very excited to bring them home!
