Emanu-Lights ProgramLighting the Way for New Members
Help welcome new members to our community by becoming an Emanu-Light!
Why have an Emanu-Light Program?
The purpose of the Emanu-Light program is to help welcome new mem-bers into the Temple. It provides a single point of contact for questions and synagogue information. This program also provides a hospitable welcoming process.
What would I have to do to be a part of this program?
You would be a warm and welcoming contact for a specific new mem-ber. We will pair you up by shared demographics or interests. You will act as an informational resource about Temple programs and events, and help connect the new member by making introductions. You are NOT expected to be a best friend.
Emanu-Light Guidelines:
» Initial phone call
» If possible, deliver the Temple Welcome Bag (within 2 weeks of the new member joining)
» Attend at least 2 Temple events together (services, special program, etc.)
» Have at least 1 meet-up outside of the Temple (playdate, coffee, lunch, shabbat dinner)
» Introduce the new member to other members of the community
» Have a 6 month check-in
You are:
Friendly, outgoing, kind, committed, sensible, helpful, and a good listener
Sign Me Up!
For more information or to become a part of the Emanu-Lights program please contact Sharon Sock at (401) 331-1616 or [email protected].
We are thrilled to be bringing back our popular Religious School “Candles Fundraiser”! Our school fundraisers help supplement the general school budget and especially help support our special programs. Through this fundraiser, we also provide our own community with beautiful products which enhance our celebrations of Hanukkah. These candles sell themselves! Please spread the word and sell to friends, relatives, grandparents, neighbors. They also make great gifts.
NEW this Year! We have candles available at the office to purchase and take with you. No pre-ordering is necessary!
Orders with payment (checks made out to Temple Emanu-El) are due back to the Temple no later than Sunday, November 18th. THIS DEADLINE IS FINAL. We need to place our order for additional candles with the company that afternoon.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact any of us. Thanks!

How Can Aging Be A Good Thing?
All too often as we think about growing older we think of drifting down-hill to a place we don’t want to go. But each year new doors open with opportunities, even while others close with loss. We have the power to prepare, to become stronger, more resilient, and navigate these challenges. Will we turn toward opportunities, and find new joy and meaning in life? How can we make the most of this time in our lives, and develop into deeper wiser people?
During group meetings we will reflect on these and other complex ques-tions. We will delve deeper into chapter content focused on topics such as: relationships with adult children, living with loss, cultivating well-be-ing, and shaping our legacy.
Grief Support Group
For those living with grief who perhaps might find comfort and sup-port meeting with others who are also on individual grief journeys, this might be for you. The group is anticipated to meet either once or twice a month for a given period of time. Focus of each group session will be the presenting concerns of the members as they relate to their personal grief experience with supplemental material provided by the facilitator.
Buried in Treasures: Help for Compulsive Acquiring, Saving, and Hoarding Discussion Group
While many people may find it easy to manage their possessions, some find it extremely difficult. If you have a problem resisting the urge to ac-quire and find your home filling with “stuff,” (perhaps items that others might find useless and unnecessary). You may suffer from a condition known as hoarding disorder.
Hoarding is a behavior problem consisting of clutter, difficulty discard-ing items, and excessive buying or acquiring. Hoarding is often associat-ed with significant reduction in quality of life, and in extreme cases, can pose serious health risks. If you or a loved one has a hoarding disorder this group might be useful.
Are you interested in participating in any of these programs, or would you like more information? Please call or email Tara Watkins:

Having a Minyan twice every day is one of the ways we supporteach other as a community. These daily services offer those inmourning or observing a Yahrzeit an opportunity to reciteKaddish, and they provide all of us a space for us to cometogether in communal prayer.
It is occasionally difficult to find ten people who can attend andmake Minyan possible. We are turning to you to ask you toconsider attending Minyan. Please consider joining us at thefollowing times. We could especially use your help on theweekends! Thank you for supporting this important aspect ofour community!
