The original idea for this pattern was: Some day my prince willcome! We wanted cables and lace worthy of a princess as shewaited for Prince Charming. The one design we knew who was upto the challenge was Kathy Zimmerman. What Kathy has createdis far too beautiful for just waiting around ... knitted in our super-soft super wash Summit Hill, this cardigan will make you feel like aprincess, no matter who you may be waiting for.

Neck & Shoulder Shaping
Next Row (RS) Work in pat as established across 28 (32 38 42) sts, join a 2nd ball of yarn, BO center 26 (28
26 28) sts for back nec, work to end. Working both sides at once, bind off 3 (3 4 4) sts at each neck edge
twice, AND, AT THE SAME TIME, BO at shoulder edge 7 (9 10 11) sts twice, then 8 (8 10 112) sts once: no

[P4, K2] 0 (1 2 0) times, P0 (0 0 3): 8 (8 8 10) incs [61 67 73 79 sts.] Change to larger needles.
Begin cable pattern (RS): K0 (0 0 1); beg with row 1 of Chart C and st #1 (25 19 11), work across chart C,
ending with st #20 (26 2 -10), K1 (garter edge at front). Cont in pat as established until piece measures same
as back to underarm, end WS.
Armhole Shaping (RS) : BO 6 (6 6- 7) sts at beg next row 55 (61 67 72) sts. Cont in pat as est, dec 1 st
at armhole end eor 6 (8 10 10) times, then every 4th row 2 (1 0 0) times: 14 (15 16 17) total armhole
decs over 22 rows including BO row [47 52 57 62 sts.] Cont in pats as established until piece measures 6.5
(7 7.5 8) above armhole shaping, end WS at front edge.
Neck Shaping
BO 12 sts at beg next row [35 40 45 50 sts.] BO 3 sts at neck edge 1 (2 2 2), 2 sts 3 (2 3 4) times,
then dec 1 st eor 4 (4 3 2) times, and, at the same time, dec shoulders same as back no sts rem. Mark
position of 7 buttonholes evenly spaced along left front, placing bottom 1/2 above beg of body shaping rib
and top 12 below BO edge.
Right Front
Work same as left front, reversing all shapings and working self-reinforcing buttonholes over 5th, 6th, 7th &8th sts in from edge opposite marked positions of left front.
Sleeves
With larger needles, CO 50 sts.
Set up row (WS): *K5, P4, K2, P4; rep from * across to last 5 sts, end K5.
Beg with row 1, work 50 sts chart A. Cont in pat as established until 45 rows completed, end WS (approx. 5).
Change to smaller needles.
Cuff Shaping (RS):
*P1, double decrease (slip 2 sts as if to K2tog, K1, pass 2 slipped sts over the K st) , P1, yo, ssk,K2tog, yo, P2, yo,
ssk, K2tog, yo; rep from * to last 5 sts, end P1, dbl dec, P1: 8 sts dec, [42 sts.] Beg with row 1 & st #1, work chart
B over 45 sts, end st #3. Cont in pat as established until 20 more rows chart B completed, end RS.
Increase Row (WS):

Begin cable pattern:
Beg with row 1, work 50 sts chart D. Cont in pat as est, inc 1 st each side (working inc sts into pat D as
established) eor 9 (11 12 12) times, then every 4th row 9 (9 9 -10) times: [86 90 92 94 sts.] Work even
until piece measures 17 (17.5 - 18 18.5) from beg.
Cap Shaping
BO 6 (6 6 7) sts each end at beg next 2 rows 74 (78 80 80) sts. Dec 1 st each end eor 16 (17 18 20)
times. BO 3 sts at beg next 2 rows twice, then BO 4 sts at beg next 2 rows 1 (1 1 0): 22 (24 24 28) sts. BOrem sts in pat.
Finishing
Block pieces to measurements. Sew shoulder seams.
Collar (worked separately and sewn in, all sizes same): With larger needles, CO 87 sts.
Foundation Row (WS): K1 (edge st), *P4, K2, P4, K5, rep from * 4 times (5 reps total), P4, K2, P2, K1 (edge st). K1
(edge st); beg with row 1 & starting with st #6, work chart A over 85 sts, end K1 (edge st). Cont in pat until 26

Shape Collar Stand
Cont in pat as established, BO 20 sts at beg next 2 rows 47 sts. BO 6 sts at beg next 7 rows, then BO rem 5 sts.
Block to measurements. Sew in place around neckline, matching shaping. Set in sleeve matching shaping. Sew
side and sleeve seams. Attach buttons to left front band opposite buttonholes of right band. Weave in ends.
