The National Language Strategy states:"Every child should have the opportunity throughout
Key Stage 2 study a foreign language and develop their interest in the culture of other nations.
They should have access to high quality teaching and learning opportunities, making use of native
speakers and e-learning. By age 11 they should have the opportunity to reach a recognised level of
competence on the Common European Framework and for that achievement to be recognised through a
national scheme"

KS2: years 3-6, the same languages building on each years learning
A foreign language: Spanish, French, German and Italian in Westminster
To study: 1 hour a week, must be part of the curriculum
30 minutes in the class (lesson)
30 minutes during the week
