Political Parties and Issues in 2008 – THE BILLION DOLLAR CAMPAIGN!
How Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Nebraska Party,
and the Green Party Feel
Republican Party FACTS: GOP = Grand Old Party, from
1870s. Began in 1850s as anti-slavery
party. Abraham Lincoln was first
Republican president. First political party to favor suffrage
for women.
Republican Party Statement of Belief
I believe that the proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people.
I believe that good government is based on the individual and that each person's ability, dignity, freedom and responsibility must be honored and recognized.
I believe that free enterprise and the encouragement of individual initiative and incentive have given this nation an economic system second to none.
I believe that sound money policy should be our goal.
I believe in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin. I believe that persons with disabilities should be afforded equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity as well.
I believe we must retain those principles worth retaining, yet always be receptive to new ideas with an outlook broad enough to accommodate thoughtful change and varying points of view.
I believe that Americans value and should preserve their feeling of national strength and pride, and at the same time share with people everywhere a desire for peace and freedom and the extension of human rights throughout the world.
Finally, I believe that the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

No Child Left Behind Stronger Accountability
for Results. Greater Flexibility and
Local Control. Expanded Options and
Choice for Parents. Emphasis on Teaching
Methods that Work. Resources to Support
the Reforms
Republicans on Abortion That is why we say the unborn child
has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and we endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions. We oppose using public revenues for abortion and will not fund organizations which advocate it.
Republicans on the Death Penalty - Pro No-frills prisons, with productive work
requirements, that make the threat of jail a powerful deterrent to crime.
Increased penalties and resources to combat the dramatic rise in production and use of methamphetamine and new drugs such as ecstasy.
An effective program of rehabilitation, where appropriate.
Support of community-based diversion programs for first time, non-violent offenders.
Reforming the Supreme Court’s invented Exclusionary Rule, which has allowed countless criminals to get off on technicalities.
A constitutional amendment to protect victims’ rights at every stage of the criminal justice system.
The War Pro-invasion of Iraq The Bush Doctrine:
“We will go after all terrorists. The nations that harbor them can expect no mercy either.”
Axis of Evil: Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan
Republicans and Gun Control gun violence should be addressed by punishing the illegal use of guns rather than adding more restrictions to gun use.
The Democratic Party Created in 1792 by
Thomas Jefferson to fight for the Bill of Rights inclusion in the Constitution.
Famed leaders include: Woodrow Wilson, FDR, JFK, Bill Clinton.
Democratic Leadership – Until July, 2008
The Democratic Party Leadership for 2008?
Democrats on National Security Democrats proposed the creation of a Homeland Security Department months ago, and President Bush threatened to veto such a move. Bush later changed his mind, but Senate Republicans have delayed the passage of a Homeland Security bill, fighting to strip protections for workers in the new department.
Democrats on Education The Democratic Party has
a long-standing commitment to supporting and strengthening our public schools and opposes any plan that siphons federal money away from public schools to private schools.
President Bush and Republicans have proposed plans that would shift federal funds away from America's public schools to private schools.
Democrats on Gun Control Pro-Gun Control Favor the Brady
Bill limiting access to guns.
Democrats on Abortion The Democratic Party is
pledged to upholding a woman's right to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade. Democrats believe it is a fundamental constitutional liberty that individual Americans - not government - can best take responsibility for making the most difficult and intensely personal decisions regarding reproduction.
THE “X” Factor of the Independents Will Mayor Michael
Bloomberg of NYC run for President as an INDEPENDENT??
Republican that in 2007 switched to being a Democrat.
Can raise the $$ to run.
Would his run hurt the Republicans or Democrats??
The Libertarian Party A WIDE range of
opinions – but most would say government has forgotten the Constitutional idea of limitations on power.
The Libertarian Party Libertarians
believe the answer to America's political problems is the same commitment to freedom that earned America its greatness:
The Libertarian Party:Basic Beliefs free-market economy
and the abundance and prosperity it brings;
dedication to civil liberties and personal freedom that marks this country above all others; ‘
a foreign policy of non-intervention, peace, and free trade as prescribed by America's founders."
Libertarian Issues: Crime Libertarians would do
more than just punish criminals. We would also make them pay restitution to their victims for the damage they've caused, including property loss, medical costs, pain, and suffering. If you are the victim of a crime, the criminal should fully compensate you for your loss.
Libertarians: Crime Issues Drug prohibition does
more to make Americans unsafe than any other factor. Just as alcohol prohibition gave us Al Capone and the mafia, drug prohibition has given us the Crips, the Bloods and drive-by shootings.
Libertarians: Crime Issues What's more, drug
prohibition also inflates the cost of drugs, leading users to steal to support their high priced habits. It is estimated that drug addicts commit 25% of all auto thefts, 40% of robberies and assaults, and 50% of burglaries and larcenies.
Libertarians: Make drugs legal By ending drug
prohibition Libertarians would double the resources available for crime prevention, and significantly reduce the number of violent criminals at work in your neighborhood.
Libertarians on Gun Control Law-abiding,
responsible citizens do not and should not need to ask anyone's permission or approval to engage in a peaceful activity. Gun ownership, by itself, harms no other person and cannot morally justify criminal penalties.
Libertarians: Environment Outlaw
organizations like the EPA, National Park Service, OSHA.
Sell off national park land to individuals – who will look after it better and make a profit.
Libertarians: Other Issues Abortion
No Comment Cultural Diversity
White culture is under attack?? (for most Libertarians)
Immigration Close the borders
The Green Party (Or Nebraskans for Peace)
Began in 1996 under Ralph Nader’s leadership An alternative to
Democrats that are “selling out” to appear more Republican.
Seeks social cooperation instead of domination.
The Green Party: Grassroots Democracy
work to increase public participation at every level of government and to ensure that our public representatives are fully accountable to the people who elect them.
work to create new types of political organizations which expand the process of participatory democracy by directly including citizens in the decision-making process.
The Green Party: Govt. to help promote Social Justice
We must consciously confront in ourselves, our organizations, and society at large, barriers such as racism and class oppression, sexism and homophobia, ageism and disability, which act to deny fair treatment and equal justice under the law.
The Green Party: Environment Issues
Laws to promote recycling
Tougher environmental laws and more enforcement.
Alternative energy: Energy Independence from foreign oil.
The Green Party: The War in Iraq
US OUT of Iraq Impeach Bush / Cheney
Work to demilitarize, and eliminate weapons of mass destruction, without being naive about the intentions of other governments.
We recognize the need for self-defense and the defense of others who are in helpless situations
The Green Party: Abortion Women have the
right to choose to be pregnant or not.
That is between a woman and her doctor.
The Nebraska Party That it is the
responsibility of our government to support the Christian principles of our forefathers.
Founded by the Rosberg / Richards Families
The Nebraska Party That America has
abandoned its moral roots, and unless it recognizes again that all rights and liberties come from God, and that there is a moral authority upon which all our laws are based.
The Nebraska Party That affirmative action is
wrong and that all citizens have equal rights.
That All unborn babies have the right to life.
Even the unconceived. NO birth control
That government is to promote justice not injustice.
