Amadeo Giannini was a great Italian-American and Californian who founded the Bank of Italy, which he transformed and grew into what we know today as Bank of America. Giannini invented branch banking in the U.S. and the concept of “social equity” – equal access to goods and services for all. Piazza Giannini will be built in his honor, featuring a 500 square foot public space, a bust and pedestal, a plaque telling Giannini’s story, concrete planters and barriers, street furniture, and tables and chairs with umbrellas.
