E0 workshop, ANU, 11th – 12th September 2015
Welcome
The E0 workshop is organised as a satellite meeting to the 2015 Heavy Ion Accelerator Sym-posium. The HIAS 2015 is dedicated to Professor George Dracoulis. George made a signifi-cant contribution to the development of time–correlated conversion electron and gamma–rayspectroscopy using heavy ion beams to study nuclear isomers and shape co–existence.
The aim of this workshop is to focuss on the physics vision for E0 transitions in atomicnuclei. The workshop will cover areas of broad interest related to electron and pair conversionprocesses, with special emphasis on E0 transitions, including:
• Current challenges in nuclear structure studies using electron spectroscopy
• E0 transitions as probes of nuclear structure
• Experimental challenges to observe E0 transitions
• Theory of conversion electron and electron-positron pair emission
• New experimental facilities
The E0 workshop will be held in the seminar room of the Department of Nuclear Physics,RSPE, Bldg. #57, Garran Road (see the Campus map). The seminar room has a projector(VGA input) and a computer, so presentations can be uploaded from USB drives. Alterna-tively you can use your own laptop. We encourage each speaker to leave 5 minutes at the endof their time slot for discussions. The program also has a 1 hour slot at the end for discussions.
Contributions to the HIAS 2015 proceedings, based on presentations at the E0 workshop, canbe submitted. For further details see the HIAS 2015 website at http://hias.anu.edu.au/2015/.
Speakers may submit pdf versions of their slides for publication on the HIAS website.
Refreshments and light lunches will be provided next to the seminar room. On Friday night, starting at 6 pm we going to have a barbecue, which will be held at the Department ofNuclear Physics. Accompanying persons are invited. For the duration of the workshop freeWiFi will be available in the building.
We thank Matt Reed, Tomas Eriksen, Sankha Hota and Petra Rickman for their help withorganising the E0 workshop.
While the weather in Canberra in September can be crisp, we hope that sunny days, warmspring hues, and lively discussions (and Australian wine) will keep the cold at bay!
