JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Department of Meteorology has research laboratories serving the disciplines of Meteorology, Remote Sensing, and Space sciences / Astronomy and seismology. These labs are fully equipped with latest softwares and hardware machines, tools to facilitate the students in their respective fields to help perform their work in an efficient way. Department has its own Automatic Weather Station (AWS) which monitors weather phenomena and archives weather / climate data. Meteorological Lab is equipped with latest technical softwares, regional and global climate / atmospheric models for simulating and predicting climate / atmospheric conditions. The Satellite Meteorology and Remote Sensing lab has latest instruments with state of the art h a r d w a r e a n d s o f t w a r e f o r simulation purpose and some other softwares like ArcGIS, ArcView, and MapInfo, and we have acquired new radar named as LIDAR from Hong Kong. The GIS Lab is adorned with GPS and workstations. The labs are offering an environment where students can carr y out their independent research and projects in an innovative way. A number of new research projects are going to start soon.

The main objectives of these MOUs are
lTo promote and enhance academic interests between CIIT and other Institutions.
lTo provide opportunities for bright students of MS/PhD to work with world’s renowned scientists in the fields of Meteorology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Remote Sensing / GIS.
lTo provide academic interaction by organizing special lectures/seminars at CIIT.
lTo facilitate students in terms of trainings / workshops.lTo promote research activities among Institutions.
RESEARCH COLLABORATION
CIIT has signed MOU’s with the following International Universities / Institutions in relation to education in Meteorology:
University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (UIUC) USAl
lPotsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany
Being the premier market stake holder of Meteorology in higher education and competency, CIIT is fully committed towards providing students with scholarships. Deserving academic achievers may get up to 100% waiver for their tuition fee. CIIT also believes in encouraging bright students who are otherwise, financially handicapped by providing them with full financial assistance. A number of competent students are funded through research projects and HEC funded scholarships.
An entry test is conducted by CIIT to select the students for completed MS/PhD Program. MS applicants should have 16 years of education from an accredited institution without any third division or grade D in the academic career with at least 1st division or CGPA 2.5 out of 4 in the last degree. PhD applicants should have 18 years of education with 3 CGPA in the last degree.

Department of Meteorology is a home of multidisciplinary fields and offers a wide range of specialties including Meteorology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Geography, Geodesy, Geographical Information System (GIS) and Seismology. The Department was established in 2005. Since its establishment it has been providing facilities in research and teaching activities. Apart from research and teaching, the Department frequently conducts workshops and organizes national and international conferences, meetings and group seminars to elaborate and discuss scientific problems. The Department of Meteorology has the unique place at national level being the only Department in Pakistan offering graduate degrees in Meteorology. Researchers strength is sizeable with 17 PhD students who are currently enrolled and carrying out their research and course work enthusiastically. Many post-doc and research associates are engaged in scientific projects. Two PhD students have completed their PhD during the period 2014-15.The Department has multi-disciplinary research groups working on analysis of weather data, climate change and its variability, impact assessment, hazard and risk analysis and disaster management, adaptation and mitigation, earth science system and trans-disciplinary issues related to subsurface, above surface atmosphere, and space. A center for Climate Research and Development (CCRD) has also been established in 2014 by the Department with collaboration of Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany.
