Kindergarten This week in Kindergarten we
have had lots of eventful
things happening! In read-
ing we have been learning
about St. Patrick’s Day and
comparing and contrasting
fiction and nonfiction texts.
In math we have been con-
tinuing our learning with
addition and subtraction,
as well as celebrating Pi
day as a class. In social
studies we have been reviewing our
social skill of respect and practicing
our rules and procedures. In science
we are wrapping up our unit on the
different states of matter. The Kinder-
garten team hopes you have a won-
derful spring break, and we look for-
ward to seeing you soon!
1st Grade starting with the American ver-
sion and then reading Native
American, Irish, and Zuni ver-
sions, and compared and con-
trasted the stories and voted
on our favorites! It was a magi-
cal week!!
Ms. Parker and Ms. Strickland’s
classes have been very busy
this week. We are working on
different ways to make words
with Long "e" sounds. We are
reading stories about Lepre-
chauns and writing how to
catch them and what to do
when it happens. We are
working on extending our
writing by answering the "wh"
questions (who, what, where,
and when). On Tuesday we
did STEM activities for Pi day
and learned about circumfer-
ence and diameter. We ex-
tended STEM activities later
in the week as we finished up
3D geometry.
This week, Ms. Anderson and
Ms. Swank's class explored
fairy tales! The students
wrote fairy tales in writing,
and completed STEM activi-
ties related to Jack and the
Beanstalk (building their own
beanstalk) and The Princess
and the Frog (a book of the
frog life cycle). In reading,
students studied the elements
of fairy tales - they are now
very good at identifying each
element within a fairy tale!
We studied different versions
of the story Cinderella -

2nd Grade the connection is be-
tween our circulation
system and our respir-
atory system. In math,
they reviewed 3D and
2D shapes and are just
beginning to learn
how to partition 2D
shapes to make arrays.
They celebrated Pi
Day with a chocolate
creme pie that one of
the students brought
in to share with the
class (see picture).
They have also been
delving deep into dif-
ferent versions of the
classic fairy tale, Cin-
derella, and making
comparisons between
the stories. On Thurs-
day, they learned
about the meaning of
St. patrick's Day and
created a narrative
story in which they
had to make a plan
and write a 3-
paragraph story on
how they caught a
Leprechaun. Have a
fantastic and SAFE
Spring Break!
Mrs. Bonnell's class
has been very busy
this week learning
about the human
body! They made
models of our lungs
and how they work.
The "lungs" were
made out of plastic
bottles, plastic bags,
rubber bands, and a
balloon. When they
pulled the bottom of
the bottle, the balloon
inflated, simulating our
diaphragms helping us
inhale. The reviewed
how our heart works
and how important
3rd Grade knowledge with
Plant Jeopardy, con-
tinuing to learn
about fractions, and
concentrating on
possessive pronouns.
On Thursday, third
grade will be partic-
ipating in a spring-
time STEM day. This week, Ms. Mur-
phree's class is test-
ing their plant

Fourth grade enjoyed cel-
ebrating Pi day as well as
our Spring STEM Day this
week. We had very fun
stations where we made
leprechaun traps, coin
bridges, floating flowers
and even learned a new
language...Pilish! to end
the festivities we enjoyed
some pie! Thank you to
all parent volunteers as
well as parents who sent
in donations.
Don't forget that our last
field trip is to Astroskate
on May 12th. The forms
and money for this trip
are due by March 31st.
Enjoy your break!

Students, teachers, staff, and parents celebrated Pi Day
today at Orlando Science Elementary. Students were
taught the importance of the number 3.14 and how it is
found throughout nature and used for man-made-
construction. Students then applied their knowledge in
the fields of art, cooking, engineering, and finally the art
of eating. Pi Day is celebrated each year at Orlando Sci-
ence Elementary and each year the events highlights our
hands-on approach to learning.

Hello! This year, submitting pictures to be considered for the yearbook is really easy. 1. Go to http://www.hjeshare.com/eShare/Index.jsp or search for HJ ESHARE in the app store (Apple and Android).
2. School Code: OSES2017 (case sensitive!) 3. Fill out the acknowledgement information. 4. Submit up to 10 pictures at a time. Once uploaded, you will be asked for the grade level of the student(s) in the picture. If it was a multi-grade event, such as Grandparents Night, just put K-2, 3-5, etc. If it is a single grade level, just put the number (1st grade = 1). It will also ask for the names of students and a brief de-scription. If it is a class picture, you put "_____'s Class" or "Grade Level." All fields must have something. That's it! The deadline to submit pictures will be sometime in March. But please do not wait until the last minute, as I'd like to work on the book throughout the year.
How to Submit pictures to be featured in the Yearbook!
