Superabrasive Inc. owns and operates a 220,000 square foot factory in Bulgaria, Europe where over 200 highly skilled employees produce a variety of diamond products for three key industries. The size of our factory and the quality of our equipment enable us to reach high volume production capabilities. Our main strength in achieving exceptional product quality remains our ability to produce our own diamond powder and to test the quality of all of the diamond powder used in the manufacturing of our tools. In fact, for every batch used, a series of tests, combined with checks and balances, are performed to ensure optimum performance. Quality control is the core of our business.

Our new 46,000 square foot corporate office is located just north of Atlanta in Hoschton, Georgia, U.S.A. and features office spaces, large warehouses, training facilities, classrooms and showrooms. The U.S. office, together with our offices in Liverpool, U.K. and Istanbul, Turkey serve hundreds of companies around the world. We offer a wide variety of optical products including generator wheels, PCD tips, pellets, and glass fining pads for surfacing lenses. For finishing lenses we offer roughing, finishing and polishing wheels to process all lens materials on all of the most popular lens edging systems. We also supply carbide blades for dry cutting systems. For final finishing we manufacture hand edger machines, hand edger wheels and grooving blades.

Among our most innovative products is our new TRIO® roughing wheel for processing Trivex® lenses. We developed this wheel in close collaboration with PPG Industries, and TRIO® is the only wheel on the market designed to cut CR-39, Hi-Index, Polycarbonate and Trivex® lenses without axis problems and with less smoke and swarf.

We guarantee your satisfaction with all of our products. If for any reason you are not satisfied we will make every effort to solve the issue. Our customer service staffs come from the optical industry and are very knowledgeable and devoted to helping our customers.

brass bond(B)

Our brass bond is optimal for finishing and polishing wheels, and recommended for plastic, polycarbonate, and TRIVEX™

lenses. We also offer many styles of hand edger wheels in brass

bond.

TRIO®(TRI)

While not actually a different bond style, TRIO® wheels are brazed bond wheels

manufactured especially for roughing TRIVEX® material lenses.

The special design prevents overheating, excess smoke, swarf

build-up, and axis problems. TRIO® is also appropriate for

roughing plastic and poly lenses as well.

Roughing WheelsHow do I know which wheel I need?This can many times be determined by answering three simple questions…What is the manufacturer of my machine?...What is the width of my current wheel in millimeters?...What type of lenses am I cutting?

Why do you need this information?Knowing your machine’s manufacturer provides a lot of information, such as many of the wheel’s standard dimensions. However, the wheel’s width is not always standard, which is why we recommend that you measure the width of the wheel you are currently using to determine exactly what size you are needing. Many machines will accept more than one wheel size, depending on the set-up. Lastly, different lens materials require different bonds for optimal cutting performance, which is why this piece of information is important.

What is the difference between the different bonds…GP, GPP, BR?Each of these bonds are specially designed to process a specific type of lens material. For example, a GP bond is recommended for cutting glass and plastic, GPP may be used to rough glass, poly, and plastic, while BR (brazed) roughing wheels are optimal for machines cutting primarily polycarbonate, plastic, and high index lenses.

Do I need a special wheel for cutting Trivex®?For labs that regularly process TRIVEX® material lenses, we recommend using TRIO®, a wheel specially designed in a collaborative effort be-tween Superabrasive and PPG for cutting TRIVEX® material lenses. Comparatively, TRIVEX® has a very low melting temperature and standard brazed roughing wheels become too hot during the roughing cycle to effectively cut the lenses. The wheel and the lens overheats, causing the TRIVEX® lenses to melt, burn, and smoke. TRIO® is designed to reduce the surface temperature of both the wheel and lens so that TRIVEX® lenses can be cut quickly and effectively. TRIO® is also ideal for processing plastic and polycarbonate lenses as well, so there is no need to designate a single machine for cutting TRIVEX®.

Why does your roughing wheel for TRIVEX® have holes and not slots?Through testing, we determined that adding holes to the surface of the wheel was the most effective way of reducing its surface tempera-ture without interfering with the rotation and axis of the lens. We found that cutting slots across the width of the wheel caused the lens to briefly lose contact with the wheel. When the wheel and the lens come back into contact, the lens experiences some jarring which creates axis problems and can ultimately damage the lens.

Finishing and Polishing WheelsHow do I know which wheel I need?Much like determining the appropriate roughing wheel for your machine, you will need to know 3 key pieces of information: What is the manufacturer of my machine?...What is the width of my current wheel in millimeters?...What type of lenses am I cutting?

Can I replace either the finisher or polisher without replacing the other wheel?Yes, but we recommend that you replace these wheels as a matched set. It is important that the profiles of your finisher and polisher match, so if there is significant wear on your wheels, it is always best to replace both.

What is the difference between steel bond and brass bond finishers?Steel bond finishers are designed for processing glass and plastic, and brass bond is optimal for processing plastic and polycarbonate.

What is the difference between “four angled” profiles and “flat with a V” profiles?By turning your wheel on its side and examining your wheel’s profile, the difference can be easily spotted. “Four angled” finishers slope down to the V channel, while “flat with a V” wheels are completely flat from the edge of the wheel to the V channel. In most cases, your wheel’s profile is standard and changes should not be made unless you have special needs and have determined that your machine will accept vari-ous profiles.

There are extra numbers at the end of some finishing and polishing item numbers in the catalog. What do these mean?For finishing and polishing wheels, these numbers refer to measurements that configure the wheels’ profile, such as the degree of the bevel opening and the distance to the bevel from the edge of the wheel. These specifications are standards determined by the machines’ manu-facturers and should not be altered unless you have special needs and have determined that your machine will accept various profiles.

Does Superabrasive offer a special finishing wheel for processing TRIVEX®?No. The issue of overheating is only present in the roughing cycle; therefore, a special finishing wheel for processing TRIVEX® is not neces-sary. Standard brass bond finishing wheels are optimal for processing plastic, polycarbonate, and TRIVEX®.

Muchas veces las ruedas tienen dimensiones estandartes. Sin embargo, la anchura de la rueda no está siempre en estos estandartes. Por eso recomendamos que Ud. la mida para determinar el tamaño exacto que necesitará. Muchas máquinas trabajan con más que un tamaño de ruedas, dependiendo de su disposición. Finalmente, los diversos tipos de materiales de lentes requieren herramientas con diferentes tipos de enlaces para que se alcance un fincionamiento y resultado óptimo durante el proceso de cortar. Por estas razones, la informacin que Ud. provee es de gran importancia para nosotros.

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre los diversos tipos de enlaces…GP, GPP, BR?Cada uno de estos enlaces se diseñó especialmente para trabajar con un tipo específico de material. Por ejemplo, es recomendable usar her-ramientas con GP enlace para cortar vidrio y plástico. El GPP enlace puede ser usado para desbastar todos los materiales, y BR (brazed) enlace alcanza resultados óptimos al cortar policarbonate y plástico.

¿Puedo reponer una de las ruedas de finalizado y pulido sin reponer la otra?Sí, pero recomendamos que sustituya las dos. Es muy importante que los perfiles de la ruedas de finalizado y pulido sean iguales. Entonces si una de ellas se ha gastado, es mejor reponer las dos.

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre las ruedas de finalizado con enlace de acero y las ruedas de finalizado con enlace de latón?Las ruedas con enlaces de acero fueron diseñadas para cortar vidrio y plástico. Las ruedas con enlaces de latón alcanzan un resultado óptimo con plástico y policarbonate.

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre perfiles con 4 ángulos y perfiles planos con forma “V”?Examinando los dos perfiles de sus ruedas, Ud. puede distinguir la rueda con 4 ángulos de la rueda con forma “V” muy fácilmente. La superfi-cie de la rueda con 4 ángulos empieza a descender hasta que alcance el “V” canal. Por otra parte, los perfiles planos con forma “V” tienen una superficie completamente plana desde el margen hasta el V canal.
