Camping Season at SHCS!
Term 4 is Camping Season at Southern
Highlands Christian School! Last week
saw Year 5 and 6 enjoy a fabulous
Canberra excursion. The students took
part in an action-packed trip with visits
to many of Canberra’s leading
attractions. This week, Year 3 will enjoy
a camp-out at School with teachers and
parents. We look forward to a great first
school camping experience! The Year 4
camp is being held at Wedderburn
Christian Campsite with a great range of
activities and learning experiences. High
School students will be visiting the Royal
National Park in Sydney, with each year
visiting a different region on the way
including; Minnamurra Rainforest,
Kiama Historic society, Australian
Nuclear, Science & Technology
Organisation (ANSTO), Wattamolla and
Manly. I pray all students enjoy a great
time away, experiencing God’s creation
while learning with their teachers and
peers in the classroom that is the world.
New Play Equipment
This term, the School will be officially
opening the new playground equipment
located in the Junior School playground.
This equipment has been paid for by the
hard work of volunteers and families
across both the Country Fair and the
Winter Ball this year. However, we are
also very grateful to the Southern
Highlands Christian School Trust Fund.
The Fund was established by Company
Members over two decades ago and
many, many families have contributed
funds to pay for equipment and resources,
for the use of students. The trustees have
decided to finalise the fund and directed
the accumulated money to enable us to
purchase this new equipment. I praise
God for the foresight of many of our
founding families and intend to honour
this group at the official opening on the 6th
November at 11am. All families are
welcome to attend.
Uniform
The Uniform Committee continues to
make progress in confirming the School’s
updated uniform. I am grateful to
committee members, Carmen Williams,
Caroline Cuerden, Jacqui Unwin and Cass
Sabben. It is with special thanks to Cass
Sabben, that I announce she will be
leaving the role of Uniform Shop
Coordinator this Monday. We are grateful
for her faithful work and diligence over
the time she has managed the Uniform
Shop. Vanessa Condon will be taking on
this role and we welcome her to the
position. New Uniform Shop hours are
advertised in this edition of In Touch.

Book Fair
From Monday 26th – Friday 30th
October we will be holding our final
Book Fair for the 2015. For every book
purchased at the Book Fair the School
Library will receive a percentage of
the sale to purchase some of our own
books for the School.
These books are from Scholastic and
are a great reading tool. Books are an
average of $10 - $12. There are also
some inexpensive non-book items.
Book Fair will be open before school
Tuesday - Thursday, every
lunchtime, and after school Monday
– Thursday, as well as Grandparents
Afternoon. You will find us in a new
location! We will be operating from
F4: the classroom attached to the
Senior Library. Looking forward to
seeing you there.
Stage 3 visit
our Capital
On the 14th October, Stage 3 went on
an excursion to our great capital,
Canberra. It was such an experience
for us to grow personally and to learn
a lot. We went to many different
places, each very unique and we saw
things we wouldn’t see in the
highlands. We started our
adventure in the War Memorial and
realised how blessed we are and
how many people fought for our
country to be what it is today. We
also went to Parliament House and
had an insight into the life of
politicians and politics. We visted
the Senate and the House of
Representatives and split into
groups and toured around the
building. We even got to see our
own Prime Minister, Mr Malcolm
Turnball. We chatted to Mr Stephen
Jones, the Labor Federal Member for
Throsby. Next we visited the AIS
Sports Centre and had some good
insights on sport. We got to
experience what it might be like to
play all kinds of sports from ice
skating to basketball and all in
between! Southern Highlands
Christian School would like to
acknowledge the financial
contribution made by the PACER
rebate - an Australian Government
Initiative. We had an amazing time
in our capital territory.

Pray for the following staff members – Mrs Karyn Rusin in her role as Development Officer, praise God for her creativity
and love for our School as she works behind the scenes in so many ways. Pray also for Mr Tim Jenkinson in his role of
5/6 teacher, praise God for his love of math and science and his fun way of engaging students in these subjects and others.
Continue to pray for our Year 12 students as they work through the remainder of their HSC exams. Pray for guidance
and wisdom as they consider their path after school and where that may lead. Pray for God’s strength and peace as they
make decisions and step outside the familiar boundaries of school.
