• The definitive diagnosis of sarcoidosis relies on histologic confirmation of noncaseating granulomata. A chest radiograph is probably the best single screening test for sarcoidosis, as it reveals abnormal results in approximately 90% of the patients with active Disease. Thin-cut spiral computed tomographic( CT) imaging is a more sensitive imaging modality and may be particularly valuable in the patient with a normal-appearing chest radiograph in whom there remains a high clinical suspicion for disease.
