Established in 2003, Constructive is a specialist consultancy
whose primary focus is sourcing talent for the Built
Environment, Infrastructure and Resources industries.

purpose of the salary guide
We are frequently asked by our clients about market trends and how their salaries and packages compare to current market levels. The figures displayed are a guide only and have been put together based on the information provided to consultants by candidates and clients over the past twelve months. In market conditions such as the present when good candidates are in such short supply, it’s helpful to know whether or not your staff are being paid in line with those of your competitors to ensure that you’re achieving and maintaining high staff retention rates.

industry trends
New South Wales has experienced exponential growth in the
infrastructure space in the last few years. This trend is likely to
continue with the NSW government having committed $60 billion to
rebuilding state infrastructure in an effort to ease congestion across
the state (NSW Government Website, April 2015). Major investment
in rail and road projects has resulted in massive demand within the
infrastructure market, thus resulting in a severe candidate shortage.
The NSW Building market is currently going through a record
growth rate, driven by the residential sector which has benefited
by the current record low Reserve Banks interest rate. New
homes, both apartments and housing, are being built all over the
metropolitan area, with the Hills District and Western Sydney being
the busiest spots.
Demand from investors and a chronic shortage of supply has
made NSW properties some of the most expensive in the world
according to the international monetary fund. Sydney’s median
house price hovers around A$880,000. In Melbourne, it is more
than A$600,000. Similarly to the infrastructure sector, construction
is also suffering from a huge candidate shortage.
outlook 2017 (AiGroup)
Engineering construction is expected to grow by 5.5% in 2017.
This reflects the solid increases in revenue from road (+11.7%)
and rail projects (+14.8%) and more robust conditions in the
telecommunications sector (+12.2%) as a higher level of NBN-
related investment moves into the construction pipeline. In addition,
revenue is expected from other civil projects (+5.0%) as some
large port and terminal projects move into the early stages of the
investment cycle.
Resources-related engineering construction is expected to continue
to decline in 2017. Commercial construction is projected to show
a stronger recovery in 2017 (+4.0%). Growth is expected to be led
by private sector building activity (+4.9%). Public sector building
work is expected to be slower (+2.9%) reflecting a thinner project
pipeline, and the completion of a number of large public health
sector projects.

natasha cooksonWith over 10 years’ recruitment experience Natasha has a strong background both here in Australia and in the UK.
