• New vision for exploration is great, but it’s not new…
• Good NASA ideas that went nowhere:– OMV, Liquid Fly-Back Booster, Shuttle-C, X-38, ICM,
ISS Hab, Lunox, FLO, HLR, OSP…• Why have we been unable to make a vehicle fly
since the 70s??• You must play a role in NASA’s transformation or
ISS may be our last program

• 2/3 of Americans support the Vision for Space Exploration (increase from 48% in January)– 79% of Republicans, 60% of Democrats
• Only 26% support a significant increase in national spending for space
• 63% believe NASA budget should remain at current levels or only increase slightly

• Space entrepreneurship benefits those involved– Some ideas are silly, others are great – most are making
a profit (or are well-positioned to do so in the near future)
– NASA’s Centennial Challenges office will award cash prizes for space exploration achievements
– Where is the Black community???• One of our missions is to engage our community
in the upcoming return to the moon and other space entrepreneurial opportunities

UNCF Walk-A-Thon• NSBE National Directive #1: Social
Consciousness• Event info:
– 7:30 am Saturday, September 18– McGregor Park– Picnic/Festival immediately after the walk– NSBE tent will be located near USA tent (hopefully)
• 2003 NSBE accomplishments:– 5 NSBE chapters (HSC, HAE, UH, Rice, and BTW)– 21 NSBE members– $2000 contributions

• Need 2 chapter members to attend for officers who will not be able to go– Membership Zone: recruiting techniques, socials,
member motivation, etc.– Administrative Zone: governing documentation,
program management, etc.

• Southern Methodist University Help– Located in Dallas, TX– Assisted Alumni Extension with 2004 Spring
Regional Conference, but need our help now– Trying to attend RLC, but cannot afford trip– Asking for contributions from HSC chapter
members to fund one hotel night (~$85)– Whatever you can give will be helpful– Collecting money after meeting and will mail
check tomorrow
