NAPLAN Online
Well done to our Year 3 and
Year 5 students for
demonstrating Personal
Excellence during NAPLAN Online. We are very proud
of your efforts! Overall, Albany Primary School had a
successful first year of NAPLAN Online.
We did have slight technical difficulties
during the Writing assessment, but not
to the degree that other schools in
Australia experienced. Students in Year
5 were offered the opportunity to re-sit
this assessment.
A big thank you to Mrs Jones, Ms Eley and all of the
staff for your efforts in making NAPLAN Online run
smoothly over the testing period.
Rebranding
After discussion with the School Board, a decision
about whether to pursue rebranding is still pending.
There is an identified need for further community
consultation. A starting place for this will be sharing
information about the features of the current logo.
Keep an eye out in the next newsletter for this
information!
In-Term Swimming
In-term swimming commences on Tuesday 4 June and
runs through until Friday 14 June. Students need to
bring their bathers, towel, goggles, dry clothes and
plenty of water. Please make sure all items are labelled
with your child’s name. Thank you to families who
have made prompt payment to the school. Payments
still due, need to be complete prior to the first lesson.

Eagles Cup Well done to our Eagles Cup football team for their first two games. Last week they won 84 to 14 against Flinders Park Primary School in what was the First Round of the competition. Both teams showed good sportsmanship on the field. The Second Round was another brilliant display of football and teamwork, Albany Primary School winning 84 to 1 against Spencer Park. Thank you to Mr Dawson, Mrs Stein and parent helpers who accompanied the team and supported them from the side lines.

P & C A big thank you to our volunteers
and all who supported the Mother’s Day stall, which
raised almost a thousand dollars!
Our Picture Plate fundraiser was also a great success.
We should receive the items by the end of Term 2. For
those who didn’t order, the templates will be sent
home with the children, so their art can still be
preserved.
Our next general meeting is Monday 10 June 2019,
7.00 pm, in the staffroom. Come along and have a say
in what projects our funds go toward. All are welcome.
Uniform Shop
The Uniform Shop is currently looking for new
volunteers, after some long-time volunteers stepping
down following years of volunteering. If you can spare
45 minutes twice a term, please contact Rowena
Metselaars at [email protected] or
0409 927 459.
Walking School Bus
We are looking for new volunteer supervisors so that we can have more children on the Walking School Bus. Specifically, we could use an extra person on Wednesday afternoons, but just putting your name down as an emergency stand in for a regular volunteer would be a big help. Let us know what you can do and when you can do it, and we’ll get you busy. Please contact Denise at [email protected].

Board Bits Over the coming weeks we hope to ‘introduce’ you to a variety of groups of people that fulfil different but related roles
and functions across Albany Primary School. These people are involved in the Governance of the school. Governance in
the context of schools refers to an integrated system of decision-making that has student success and school
effectiveness as its over-arching purpose. Our Governance Tree is made up of many branches. The branches represent
the different groups of our school who work together. (Picture adapted from online resources from the Dept of

Bike Education The Year 6 classes have commenced Bike Education each fortnight with Mrs Mercer. The students are learning:
road safety
how to ride in formation
road rules
appropriate, safe signalling These sessions are excellent preparation for “being safe on the road” at the Year 6 Rottnest Camp.
Absence Notifications Cold and flu season is well and truly upon us. If your child is absent from school, you can notify us by sending a text message to 0438 978 463. This text line is monitored regularly and your child’s record will be updated promptly. If your child is going to be absent for an extended period on vacation please notify the School Office in writing, or via email.
Itchy and scratchy Over the last few weeks we have had several confirmed cases of Scabies in our school. A note was sent home on 15th May outlining the symptoms and treatment, and we ask all parents and caregivers to be vigilant for signs of this infection. If you believe your child has contracted Scabies please visit a Pharmacist or General Practitioner to seek treatment. Students should not return to school until the day after treatment commences, to prevent further transmission.
THANK YOU Ms Cotton and Mr Baxter very kindly
donated utensils and supplies for our
Cooking Room. The children and staff take
great pleasure in cooking activities, and we
thank you for your generosity.
Lost Property We were thrilled to find Mr Mousey’s owner during the week. We do have a few other small personal items in our Lost & Found in the School Office, so if your child has lost something of value at school, please let them know to check in with us.
Next date is 12th June
