Dear Parents and Carers
Next week is our learning review week. We are looking for-ward to seeing you all on one of the evenings. If you have not booked already you must book as soon as possible. Just log into Parent Mail and select parents Evening. You will be able to choose which evening you want to attend and what time suits you. You must bring your child with you for the appointment as this part of their learning.
I will be available to sort out any queries as well other sen-ior staff.
We are happy to announce that a couple of parents togeth-er with Ms Schmidt are hoping to form a Parent Teacher Association and they will be selling books and handing out leaflets about this.
Children always do better in school if their parents are in-volved with what they are doing so this is an ideal oppor-tunity to see how you can get involved with your child’s school.
I look forward to seeing you all at Learning Review Sessions.

Coronavirus
You will have seen in the news that the virus that started in China has spread to other parts of the world and schools have been closed for deep cleans. We have been given advice about how to manage this situation and I am pleased to report that all is going well. I have published a leaflet from the NHS about how to prevent this and other flu viruses from spreading.
The risk to individuals remains low and health professionals are working to contact anyone who has been in close contact with people who have coronavirus. There are things you can do to help stop viruses like coronavirus spreading.
Do— cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your
sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or
sneeze ,put used tissues in the bin immediately
wash your hands with soap and water often – use
hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not availa-
ble
try to avoid close contact with people who are un-
well
Don't— do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your
hands are not clean
It is important you teach your child to wipe their
own nose with a tissue when necessary and wash
their hands afterwards.

Roll of Honour This is a special board next to Ms Cull’s office. If a child does something special outside school or be-
comes a Times Table Titan or a Maths Magician their photograph will be displayed for everyone to see.
Congratulations to all our exceptionally gifted children.
Parking around the school
Please do not park on the zig zag lines outside the school , even for a few minutes. They are there to keep our children safe. The “children cones” are there to remind you not to park there. Some people are actually moving those cones so that they can park!
Also there are other zig zag lines around the school – the same rule must apply here too. Remember they are there to keep our children safe.
Be on time for school.
Just a reminder that the doors open at 8.40am, please bring your child to school at that time. Too many of our chil-dren have been arriving after the doors close (at 8.50am) and are missing their reading time. They are then required to catch up that time at play-time. Children who are late for school have reported that it is embarrassing and that they don’t like missing playtime.
Attendance
It is the law that every child over the age of 5 attends school every day. Many of you are keeping your child off when they are well enough to be in school. Remem-ber only keep your child at home if they have a high temperature or they have vomited or have di-arrhoea. The incubation period for infectious diseases can be found on the internet or we will advise. Of course, if your child becomes unwell during the school day we will inform you.
Uniform
Please make sure that your chil-
dren wears the correct uniform for
school. Grey trousers, skirt or pina-
fore, white shirt, navy blue jumper,
cardigan or sweat shirt and BLACK
shoes. These items are expensive
so please buy the correct ones in
the first place to avoid the embar-
rassment of members of staff tell-
ing you to buy the correct clothes.
There is a section on the website
explaining what to wear

Lost books
Please help your child to find their library books.
After our last check there are 100 books missing
from the library. It is important that they are re-
turned as soon as possible so that other children
can borrow them. If you really can’t find them
then you must pay your £4.50 to replace it via
parent mail.

Girl Power !
Our Girls’ Football Team have won first place in their latest tournament – they didn’t lose a single match and powered through to the final in great style and They have certain-ly put Nelson on the map again.
Take the time to look at the new trophy in our cabinet in reception! A brilliant result for our school.
Our Newest Graduates
Ten of our children graduated at the Children’s University on Fri-day 28th February. They attend-ed a ceremony at Loughborough University, in the Olympic Park. After an inspirational talk from Geoff Thompson, MBE they each received their certificates. Con-gratulations on all of the hard work. Thanks to our wonderful parents who support their chil-dren to expand their horizons.
EYFS Mini Beasts Visit
The children in Reception and Nursery were visited by a range of minibeasts on Thursday. This is part of their Learning Challenge Curriculum. It was lovely to see how all the children were so inter-ested in the animals and so respectful to the keepers that brought them into school.
Nelson Citizens
A great day out to Trafalgar Square for our Nelson Citizen medal winners learning about and sketch-ing the sights in Trafalgar Square. So proud of our Nelson Citizens. Truly deserving of their medals. Exemplary behaviour, manners, team work and knowledge about the battle of Trafalgar.

Term Time Leave
Changes in the law mean that the Head Teach-
er no longer has discretion to allow pupils to
take term time leave. If you take your child out
of school for any reason you will receive a fine
for £60 per child per parent. This means that
the mum will be fined £60 for each child and
the dad will be fined £60 for each child.
The government monitors school attendance.
They look at persistent absence. If your child
has attendance of 90% or less they are
deemed persistent absences and we are asked
to follow this up and refer to the Local Authori-
ty who could take you to court. At court, the
penalty is either a very large fine, £1000, or
imprisonment. Please avoid keeping your child
off school unless they are very sick.
DO NOT TAKE THEM OUT OF SCHOOL WHEN
THE SCHOOL IS OPEN. Please wait until the hol-
idays.
Bike Shed
It is disappointing that the bike and scooter sheds aren’t really being used. If your child would like to ride their bike or scooter to school they can leave it in the bike shed dur-ing the day. It is advisable to lock it in there as the school is not responsible for it if it is sto-len or broken. Please make sure that your child puts it in the shed themselves as it is an-other skill for them. If you do it for them they will not become independent. (one of our school values).

If you are having trouble booking appointments for Learning Review Day, please ask at the school reception. They will be happy to help you.
