College Dux Congratulations on behalf of all at Newcomb Secondary College to our Dux for 2015, Baillee Jones. Talented and hard working, Baillee was able to achieve an ATAR of 93.05 (including a score of 49 for English) whilst also juggling the responsibilities of being a Student Leader. Well done for your efforts and achievements across the past two years, Baillee, and all the very best for your future endeavours.
Principal’s reflection 2015 has been another busy, challenging and rewarding year for all of us at Newcomb Secondary College. It was a year in which a new direction will expand partnerships with the community and opportunities for our students into the future. Once again the music program has been an outstanding advertisement for the college. They have performed for thousands of people across the state, the highlight of which was Senior Concert Band accompanying the ANZAC Ceremony in Ocean Grove. We have continued to lead the way in actively engaging our students in tertiary environments with our partnerships with Deakin and the Gordon. Although we can talk about the special events and programs that run throughout the year, most of the work in a school is focussed on delivering subject content and developing relationships with our young people. We have commenced and will continue our development of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) related initiatives in class and through exposure to STEM activities through Deakin. Our partnership with the Gordon has been recognised to the extent that this year the program has been expanded to three other Geelong Schools as part of the Skilling the Bay initiative. The opportunities that Newcomb Secondary College provides are significant.
This year we had a team in Run Geelong. We welcomed ex-student Ben Graham back to present the college with a Golden Football in recognition of the NFL 50th Superbowl. We enjoy seeing out students meet the challenges and make the most of the opportunities presented to them. A new direction for Newcomb Secondary College in 2016 is the beginning of the PTech model of educational provision. This model supports students (who choose to be involved in the program) into pathways in technology that will advantage them in an increasingly competitive, digitised and challenged future employment landscape. In this PTech journey, I acknowledge our formal industry partners in Barwon Health, Tribal Software, Opteon Property Group, Bendigo Bank and GMHBA. A big thank you to the College Council for all their work this year as well as my support team of Assistant Principals Liz McNamara and Shane Elevato and Business Manager Kris Hunter. Thanks to everyone who has supported the College this year and I wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

YEAR 12 GRADUATION Last Wednesday the Year 12 Students of 2015 celebrated their Graduation at the Capri Reception Centre. In excess of 300 friends and family members joined the students in marking this momentous occasion, and as always, the Capri provided an inviting atmosphere and an enticing menu. Thank you to all of the staff members who attended the night in support of the graduates, and to Principal Phil Honeywell and School Council President Yvette Ramsay for presenting the students with their certificates.
The occasion marks the end of the students’ secondary school journey, and represents an important juncture in their lives. For the remainder of this week, the Senior Years Team will have its doors open for any student needing a change of VTAC preferences or advice in general about their transition into continued learning or employment. This support will also be available to students at the beginning of 2016 wherever it is needed to support with the commencement of their new pathway endeavours.
Thank you to everybody involved with the Senior Years Program at Newcomb Secondary College for another outstanding year!
