“Needs Assessments” are surveys distributed
to students, and are essential to creating a
counseling program since it targets the most
current feelings and issues.• Provides concrete data to create counseling program
• Establishes priorities for the counseling program
• Provides an accountable base for the counseling
program
Conducted during morning crew the week
of January 3-7.

Career and Grades• 91% of students understand how grades they get
in school today will affect their future career
choices.
• 68% of students have already chosen, or are at
least aware of, a career they would like to pursue
after high school.
• An astounding 94% of students agree that
graduating high school will prepare them for a
college education and/or a career
School Climate• When asked if they have the technology and
resources to succeed in school, 91% of students said they do!
• 79% of our students agree that they feel safe in our school.
• Unfortunately, 55% of our students see bullying as a problem at IATHS.
• On the bright side, 81% of our students can identify AT LEAST ONE adult in school that they feel safe to talk to or go to for help.
Socio-Emotional Problems• 43% of our students report having difficulty dealing
with stress.
• In addition, 43% of students have encountered the
death of a friend or family member and need help
dealing with it.
• 18% of students at IATHS are concerned with their
own, or a friend’s, drug & alcohol abuse.
• 33% of students report needing help with some
degree of depression.
When asked to choose from a list of
various topics, the one topic picked the
most as needing the most improvement in
our school: Bullying. • 57% of all students identified bullying as a
problem at IATHS when choosing from this list.
• 31% of the students chose bullying as THE MOST
important topic needing improvement on this list.
