Message from our principal ………
Tena koutou katoa, Goeie dag, 안녕하세요, أأهھھھال, 您好, こんにちは, Welcome….
Congratulations to the Year 5 students and teachers who returned from camp on Sunday afternoon. A big thank you to all of the parent helpers who without you this activity would not be possible. From feedback received so far the camp was hugely successful and I would like to acknowledge and thank the teachers for all the time and effort they put in to planning a very successful camp.
Helping Your Child Succeed:
With the school year now well under way, it is an appropriate time to reflect on a few things that can be positive motivators in helping your child to succeed. Remember your child is unique; they are the only one of them there is!! Isn’t that just amazing. So here are a few tips…
• Celebrate their Uniqueness. Don’t compare your child with others. Every child is different, they all have strengths and weaknesses, and they all have talents and challenges. Recognise them for who they are and what they have.
• Teach them to be independent. Don’t do everything for your child. Sometimes it is faster to do things yourself than wait for your child to complete a task. But by doing everything for them you’re not preparing them to take care of themselves. Support them through a task, help them plan in advance, and be patient. Parents can empower their children to think for themselves and be more responsible for themselves – a fantastic skill to have.
• Be involved in your child’s day. Ask about their day at school – what did you learn today, who did you play with, what’s your favourite subject…? You may need to be more specific with your question if they say, “I don’t remember” or “nothing”, as I can assure you – they didn’t do nothing! Make opportunities for your child to be involved in sports or arts activities. This is another great way to build character.
• Let them learn by making mistakes. We all make mistakes. If we are given a supportive environment, we learn from these and grow in confidence and self-esteem. Most mistakes are not “life-threatening”. So take a “relaxed” position and use the situation as a learning and growth opportunity. A last note – they will always be your children, no matter how old they get! The relationship, disciplines and attitudes you establish now will pay off in the future.
He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata! He tangata! He tangata!
What is the most important thing in the world? It is people! It is people! It is people!

SPORTS UPDATE
NETBALL Teams lists have now been distributed. We thank all of the students for their patience while each year group was processed. Mr Hyde will be in contact with the appointed Managers and/or coach of each team to coordinate collection of team supplies.
We have a number of teams that are short of players or have only just enough to field a team, this may cause issues later in the season with illness and injury a reality of winter. Therefore if your student is interested in joining please email [email protected], more players are needed for:
Year 1 - Need a minimum of 2 players (we have one team with only 5 players) Year 2 - We have one team with no subs so 1 more player required. Year 4 - We have two teams with no subs so 2 more players required. Year 6 - We have one team with no subs so 1 more player is required.
We also have a number of teams that do not have managers or coaches, unfortunately if we are unable to confirm either of these roles for a team then we will not be able to confirm registration. If you are able to offer your assistance with these teams please email [email protected].
MID BAYS SWIMMING Congratulations to the team who attended the Mid Bays Tournament yesterday at the Northern Arena in Silverdale. It was a close fought battle, but Murrays Bay School are the swimming champions for 2016! We managed to bring it home with a 5 point lead!
Thank you to all the students for their efforts and the support from parents and caregivers who attended this event.
The final results are noted further on in this newsletter. There will be a presentation at an upcoming assembly. Time for this will be posted in future newsletters.
HOCKEY Registrations for Hockey is now open until the 5th April. Hockey is
offered to years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students. The registration information has been emailed to all families in these year groups or you are able to download a copy of the letter from the website.
WAIPAPA BOOKINGS If you have booked a training in Waipapa for before school, please note that you must finish at 8.30am. Every day Waipapa is used for school programmes which involve setting up of equipment.

CALLING ALL SWIMMERS! Are your children enjoying their swimming at the pool? Why not extend their skill range and confidence in a safe a n d f u n e n v i r o n m e n t w i t h t h e O c e a n K i d s (www.oceanswim.co.nz) – coming to Takapuna Beach on Saturday 2nd of April The OceanKids is a 200m swim which caters to 7-13 year old children capable of swimming 200m or more in the pool. What better way to encourage your children to have fun and be safe in the ocean than being surrounded by their peers and supportive life guards. As an added bonus, if your child is the first male or female across the line in the Under 9, 10-11, 12-13 age groups, they’ll be invited to attend the ‘Jetstar Super Swim Squad’ – a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ all-expenses paid weekend swim camp in Auckland at the end of the season (along with a parent or guardian).
The 2016 / 2017 Entertainment book is on it’s way! Last year the PTA sold 131 Entertainment Books and raised $1702. This money went towards the new Junior Playground.

You can pre-order your book NOW and receive a bonus sheet of vouchers worth $110 which you can use right away! Click the link below to order your digital or book version now. Please forward to anyone you think may be interested in purchasing an Entertainment Book.

We also need volunteers. Can you assist us perhaps once a month - only 30 minutes of your time.
