More Than Words®
The More Than Words Program® is available to parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who are under the age of five. The program aims to empower families to help their child engage in back and forth interactions, develop more mature and conventional ways of communicating, improve social communication and their child’s understanding of language. Parents will learn techniques to manage their child’s behaviours and develop their communications skills by turning everyday activities into positive learning. The 11 week program will consist of 1 x 1.5 hour pre-program consultation, 7 x 2.5 hour group sessions and 3 x 1-2 hour individual videotaping and feedback sessions. Attendance to all sessions is essential to ensure that all of the program’s strategies are learnt and can be applied to interactions with their child. This program is delivered at: Autism Queensland Cairns Far North Queensland Centre of Excellence 15 -17 Marr Street, Edmonton Cost: $3,000 per family *Autism Queensland’s services are approved by the Federal Government’s Department of Social Services. This means that families are able to use their child’s Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) funding to pay for this program. NDIS funding (if applicable) can also be used, however fees may vary. Rebates may be available through Medicare and private health insurance. Please contact us for more information.
