The nation's highways and sky-ways experience an influx of travel-ers during the holiday season.People are on the move over the lastfive weeks of the calendar year, trav-eling near and far to spend the hol-idays with friends and family mem-bers they hold dear. In fact, theUnited States Department of Transportation says theThanksgiving and Christmas/NewYear's holiday periods are among thebusiest long-distance travel periodsof the year.

    Roughly 90 percent of holiday

travel takes place by personal vehi-cle, followed by air, bus and train, says the USDOT. With so many peo-ple on the move, the risk for acci-dents and other incidents increases. To keep the holidays enjoyable andsafe, travelers should remember toexercise caution.

    • Schedule a tune-up. Make sureyour car is in good working order.Check the air pressure in tires and getan oil change if it is time. Other carson the road may kick up salt and otherdebris from the roadways, so be certainto top off windshield washer fluid tomaintain adequate visibility.

    • Leave plenty of time. Expect traf-

fic and leave extra time to get to yourdestination. Hurrying may cause youto increase your speed or make riskymaneuvers behind the wheel that canincrease your risk of accident andinjury. Leave extra time as well fortraveling through weather conditionslike snow and sleet.

    • Leave room for emergency sup-plies. Stock your vehicle with a changeof clothes, blankets, snacks and drinks,

Bethlehem–By Luke and John. For unto YOU is born this day in the city of Daa Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto YOU: YOU shfind the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. Luke 2:11,12

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his onbegotten Son into the world, that we migth live through him. Here is love, not th

we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for osins. 1John 4:9,10

And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of t world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in hiand he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. Gois love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 1John 4:14

Santa isn’t the only one keepingtrack of who is naughty and who isnice! Better Business Bureau is warningconsumers to beware of these commonholiday scams:

Look-alike websites: When shop-ping online, make sure to use onlylegitimate websites. Watch out for URLsthat use the names of well-knownbrands along with extra words.

Fake shipping notifications: Thesecan have attachments or links to sitesthat will download malware on yourcomputer to steal your identity andyour passwords. Don’t be fooled by aholiday phishing scam.

E-cards: Electronic cards can begreat fun, but be careful. Two red flagsto watch out for are: the sender’s nameis not apparent; you are required toshare additional information to get thecard.

Letters from Santa: Several trustedcompanies offer charming and personal-ized letters from Santa, but scammersmimic them to get personal informationfrom unsuspecting parents. Check withbbb.org to find out which ones arelegitimate.

Grandparents scam: Seniors shouldbe cautious if they get a call from agrandchild claiming to be in an acci-dent, arrested or hospitalized whiletraveling in another country. Neversend money unless you confirm withanother family member that it’s true.

Phony charities: Everyone is in agenerous mood at the holidays, soscammers take advantage of that withfake charity solicitations in email, onsocial media sites, and even by text.Check out charities at give.org beforedonating.

    Temporary holiday jobs: Retailers

and delivery services need extra help atthe holidays, but beware of solicitationsthat require you to share personalinformation online or pay for a job lead.Apply in person or go to retailers’ mainwebsites to find out who is hiring.

Unusual forms of payment: Bewary of anyone who asks you to pay forholiday purchases using prepaid debitcards, gift cards, wire transfers, thirdparties, etc. These payments cannot betraced and cannot be undone. Use acredit card on a secure website; look forhttps in the address (the extra “s” is for“secure”) and the lock symbol.

Free gift cards: Pop-up ads or emailoffering free gift cards are often just aploy to get your personal informationthat can later be used for identity theft.

Social media gift exchange: Itsounds like a great deal; buy one giftand get 36 in return. But it’s just a vari-
