WWII
• Coin street suffered bomb damage during WW2. A significant amount of housing was demolished when the Southbank was chosen as the sight for the 1951 Festival of Britain.
• Many of the new office buildings were large and faceless with shops and facilities and “dead” street frontages outside. In the 1970’s the area was largely derelict and the residential population dropped from 50,000 to 4000 with schools and shops closed. This lead Coin Street into decline for many years.
