In a situation of this nature, the training that I would put into place as a manager in order to avoid this situation would
be intensive training that every employee would undergo during the new employee orientation at the organization, so that
they will be well aware of the confidentiality requirements in respect to privileged healthcare information.
One of the first subjects that will be covered during this training seminar would be the subject of what the health
insurance portability and accountability act entails, and what are the stipulations and regulations that this act imposes
upon the handling of privileged health information, as well as general health records.
In addition to this initial training that the employees would receive, I would seek to ensure that the HIPAA regulations
are reviewed on a monthly basis by the departmental managers for their departmental staff within the healthcare
organization.
This monthly review will take place during a mandatory educational meeting that will be held on the last Friday of
every month for approximately one hour. This monthly review will also provide the employees with information
concerning the healthcare organization's policy of termination for any employee that violates any of the stipulations of
this act.
As a part of the initial training, it will be
required for employees within this
organization, to pass a test on the
information regarding the HIPAA
regulations, and achieve a passing score
of 80% before they are allowed to begin
working within the organization..
This requirement will be mandatory for
all employees, ranging from senior
management to departmental staff. After
the completion of the initial orientation
and training in protected health
information policies and procedures,
there will be continuous follow-up
mandatory training that will be
conducted throughout individual's tenure
at the organization.

In essence, departmental managers will be required to e-mail their staff members one page of documentation in
reference to an aspect of privileged healthcare information that will be covered for that week, as well as the
accompanying quiz is that must be e-mailed back to the departmental manager from each employee by Friday of
that week. In essence these weekly quizzes will be open book, due to the fact that employees are free to utilize the
one-page document in the completion of their quiz.
The reasoning behind this method of quiz taking, is due to the fact that quizzes will allow the utilization of the one-
page information containing document, and will facilitate the learning of the required material in a much more
expeditious manner, which will thereby reduce the stress associated with taking the quiz, and ensure that effective
learning is taking place on a continuous basis.
Some of the most important
information that will be covered in this
training program will include training on
what comprises protected health
information, so that all staff members will
be well aware of what kinds of records or
information are privileged and or
protected. This will be a part of the initial
subject matter that is covered during their
new-hire orientation.

Another important subject that will be covered during this training will be training on what individuals
within the organization has authorized access to protected health information under HIPAA. This aspect
of the training will also be covered during the initial orientation, as well as reiterated during the weekly
quizzes, and during the monthly refresher training that is provided by departmental managers.
This is a very important aspect of the training that I will implement, due to the fact that having
knowledge of which individuals within the organization are not authorized to view this information, will
help to prevent privileged information from being viewed by unauthorized staff at the onset.
This training on confidentiality can be highly effective for employees, due to the fact that it will provide
employees with knowledge in respect to HIPAA, the organizational sanctions for violating HIPAA
regulations, as well as to serve to deter employees from violating patient privacy.
