Electrical system, supplied from a grid
Upstream short circuit fault level and transformer parameters are needed for voltage harmonics calculations
Short circuit fault level (SSC) can be calculated from fault current (ISC) and upstream voltage (U) using formula
SSC = √3 * U * ISC
If the exact value of the short circuit level is not known, the following values may be used
Stiff medium voltage grid: 400 – 1800 MVA
Weak medium voltage grid: 40 – 150 MVA

3W/4W connection
Systems where neutral wire exists can be selected as 4W systems
If system does not have the neutral wire, 3W connection should be selected
4W connection is needed only when neutral wire currents (harmonics 3rd, 9th, 15th …) need to be compensated

Current reference
TDD (Total Demand Distortion) relates harmonic content to its reference value (nominal or full load, for example).
If current reference is left blank, base value is calculated automatically

Compensation level
Calculated compensation is based on selected grid code standard
If for example IEEE-519 standard is selected, compensation capacity is calculated to meet the limits of this standard
Limits for individual harmonic component can be seen from the PDF report
By selecting “Custom”, freely chosen voltage THD and current TDD limits can be chosen

Reactive power compensation
Merus Active Harmonic Filters can dynamically compensate load reactive power while compensating harmonics
Select the limit for Displacement Power Factor (DPF, cosphi) or for remaining reactive power. Priority of compensation determines if excess capacity will be used for harmonics or reactive power

Load harmonics, power quality measurement
When power quality measurement has been made and load current harmonics are known, calculation will be based on these values
1st harmonic is the fundamental current

Load harmonics, example loads
When load current harmonics are not known, calculation can be based on example loads
Load current harmonics will be calculated based on typical harmonic spectrum of each load type
“Linear load” means loads that do not cause harmonics. For example direct-on-line motors are linear loads.
