WhatisMercedCountyRegionalVision?MercedCountyRegionalVisionisthenameofthecollectiveeffortsoftheCountyofMercedandtheCitiesofAtwater,DosPalos,Gustine,Livingston,LosBanos,andMercedtoplanfortheregion’sfuturetransportationandhousingneeds.TheyareworkingthroughtheMercedCountyAssociationofGovernments(MCAG),theMetropolitanPlanningOrganizationorMPOresponsibleforsettingtransportationpolicyandprioritiesforaregionanddocumentinghowtransportationfundswillbespentintheRegionalTransportationPlanorRTP.ThePlanmakesitpossibleforourregiontogetFederalandStatefundingforlocaltransportationprojectsandprograms.MercedCountyRegionalVisionwillresultinthedevelopmentofthe2018RegionalTransportationPlantoimprovethequalityoflifeinourcommunitiesbyimprovingtransportationandhousingchoices.Ittakesabig-picturelookathowwecangrowovertimeinawaythatusesresourcesefficiently,protectsexistingcommunities,conservesfarmlandandopenspace,andsupportsourlocaleconomy.Whyarewelookingatlanduse?SenateBill375requiresplannerstoconsiderhowlanduseandtransportationplanningcanbecoordinatedtohelpreducegreenhousegasemissions.Thismeansplanningforhousing,jobsandservicestobelocatedinawaythathelpsreducetheamountoftravelwedoday-to-dayinourcarsandtrucks.MercedCountyRegionalVisionwillassessthoseeffortsandupdateswithinthosecriteria.WhoIsInvolved?MCAG,theCountyandallofCitiesinvolvedaretakingthisopportunitytoengageresidents,electedofficials,businesses,localgovernments,communitygroupsandotherstocreateaplanthatbenefitsourneighborhoods,citiesandtheentireCounty.Howlongwilltheprocesstake?ThePlanwilltakealittlemorethanayeartocompleteandbefinishedinthesummerof2018.HowCanIShareMyIdeas?Wewillbeholdingaseriesofworkshops,presentationsandeventsoverthenext8months.Youcankeepupwithallofthedetailsandopportunitiestoparticipateatourprojectwebsite.Welookforwardtoyourparticipation!
