President's Corner
Ladies,
Well May is here and I can't believe summer
will soon be upon us. Baseball, softball, and soccer
are already in full swing. As mothers and
grandparents we support our children and
grandchildren and cheer them on. I want to cheer
you on as quilters to show off your quilt projects and
also encourage our young quilters and try new
techniques. That's why I'm looking forward to the
Wool Appliqué Workshop, to expand my quilting
horizons. Als,o I want to give a BIG THANK YOU
to Janis Mayfield, Laura Deavers, and Wanda
Schneiders for the DIVA tips- great program. Each
one had a different technique for making a quilt.
Thank you ladies. Also I encourage you to put your
quilts in the Gilmer Library Quilt Show, by May 11.
Have a Blessed Day and Keep On Quilting.
Donna Reagh
*Next board meeting will be before the June
meeting.

Trash to Treasure Sale
It is never too early to begin getting
your items ready for our annual Trash to
Treasure Sale in July. As you begin new
projects and look through your “stash” pull out
those fabrics that you know will not be used
again, roughly measure them, and bag them in
zip lock bags labeled with the amount of fabric
and the price.
You may wish to create a bag of
scraps. It will need to be marked “scraps” and
have a price written on the bag.
Also, don’t forget rulers, books,
patterns, magazines, and other items needed in
quilting. Let’s get started early.
Donna reminded us of the Trash to Treasure
sale at our July meeting. Please be working on
pricing and packaging items now. Wanda
announced that they will be meeting to
determine the scholarship winner. There are 6
applications to be considered. Tonya Page
reminded everyone to pick up and pay for the
quilt raffle tickets. Also anyone who has not
paid their dues to take care of that.
The Program was presented by our quilting
Diva’s. Wanda Schneiders on rulers and
cutting tips, Janis Mayfield on 9 patch short
cuts and ideas and Laura Deaver on magic
binding.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO
JUSTICE RENNER Justice Renner, graduating senior at
Longview High School., has been selected to
receive the Country Patches Quilt Guild
$1,000.00 scholarship for 2018. Justice has
been involved at LHS for several years in
theater, yearbook staff, tennis team, a
cheerleader, member of the Student Council,
the National Honor Society and Z-Club. She
volunteers with the Gregg County Health
Department and the Spring Hill State Bank
Student Board. When she was a child, Justice learned sewing
from her grandmother, and it has become a
passion for her in creating outfits and studying
fashion design. She and her sisters love
designing and tie-dying t-shirts. After studying
business at either Baylor University or the
University of North Texas,
Justice plans to create a
line of clothing for
people who are
disadvantaged. She
loves to volunteer
and give back to
her community.
Pat Smith passed out some beautiful
challenge fabric this last meeting. If you did
not get one and want to participate, contact Pat.
Each person gets 1/2 yard. You will decide on
a quilt pattern and use the challenge fabric
along with fabric of your own to create a quilt.
Pat would like for the quilts to be big enough
to donate to " Danielle's Home of Hope for
Children" so please make them no smaller than
48" X 60". We will turn them in at the August
meeting. Good luck!
