English and Maths
So, where do I start? At Abingdon & Witney College we pride ourselves on the wide range of courses that we offer, particularly English, maths and ESOL. We have courses across the county that accommodate all ability levels and the majority lead to a well-recognised qualification, such as Functional Skills, GCSE and Trinity awards.
The majority of the courses on offer are fully funded, we will advise you of the ones that fall into this category.
Courses can take up a lot of your time, both inside the classroom and completion of any homework that you may be set. Homework could require up to 4 hours independent study per week, depending on the qualification. It is therefore important for you to consider whether or not you are able to commit to these sessions. There is an expectation that you will attend all of the sessions, although we recognise that life happens and you may miss the odd lesson.
Before you start, we’ll invite you in for an assessment day. Don’t worry – this is just to make sure you enrol on the best course for you and set off at the right pace!
How much will it cost me to get a GCSE?If you have an existing GCSE grade D/3 or below, the course is free*. If you wish to improve your grade C/4, then you will be eligible for fees.
*Please check for eligibility at: www.abingdon-witney.ac.uk/oal/fees

So, what do you do next?
The process is simple! Telephone our Admissions number 01235 555 585 to book an assessment at a venue that is convenient to you.
Then turn up at the allotted time and complete an assessment. This isn’t as scary as it sounds, the assessment is just to find out the level you are currently work-ing at so that we can make sure you are enrolled to the correct course.
The assessment will either be paper-based or on a computer.
The assessor will look at your work and advise you of the course that is suitable for you.
Then you can enrol and turn up to the class at the identified time.
It’s all very simple!
