Math SIP (School Improvement Plan)
Action StepsTier 1
*Continue to provide professional development for a deeper understanding of Math Expressions and the math practices, with particular emphasis on math practice #3 (constructing viable arguments and critiquing the reasoning of others).
*Provide support for implementation of math practice #3 through the use of Math Expressions via grade level meetings, math coaches, inservices, etc.
* Use consistent language, vocabulary and strategies as identified by Math Expressions throughout the full grade level span 2-4.
*Provide professional development for educational assistants on effective use of math talk in the classroom.
*SLT members will meet with math coach and ELL specialist quarterly to collaborate and develop best practice strategies for supporting students to construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. (Math Practice #3)
*Teachers will provide intentional vocabulary instruction within the math block.
-Math Expressions ELL tips within each unit -Use of at least key vocabulary highlighted by math coach -Additional vocabulary taught at teacher’s discretion based on student need
*Inservice time will be used to explore ACCESS test scores and “Can do” descriptors to relate them to math instruction.
Tier 2 &3
*Meet small group needs through strategy groups while still teaching Math Expressions to fidelity.
*Using data, identify the students with the greatest academic needs to provide small group or one to one instruction/intervention.
Technology
* Teachers who are in the evaluation cycle for the Effectiveness Project should have one artifact showing how they are using technology to enhanceinstruction.
* Staff will make active use of the projector, computer and/or Mimeo in their instruction.
*Teachers will have students make active use of the document cameras within the classroom (i.e. modeling, sharing, student examples, etc.).
Student, Family and Community Support
*Host a parent event focused on math.
*Include tips/topics regarding math practices and Math Expressions to further educate parent/families. (Video clips, tips in newsletters, etc.)
The Goal
By the end of the 2014-2015 school year a minimum of 80% of Grade 2-4 students at Electa Quinney Elementary School will demonstrate grade level proficiency in Reading as measured by MAP / PALS / TLA / Smarter Balanced assessments.
