Making a Difference-Sharing the Impact
Madeline Haynes Memorial Scholarship:
We are proud of and honored to recognize our 2019 Madeline Haynes Memorial Scholarship winners. We were able to present six students from Hutto High School and one student from Jarrell High School with $1000 each. We hope you will join us this year for our annual Night at the Races Fundraiser which supports our scholarship fund.
Meet our Mascots:
These two “peafowl” found us and have adopted the Sandbox as their home. We have loved having them around and they love get-ting a treat or two now and then when the kids drop crumbs. The middle school students named them Steve (upper left) and Brittney (upper right).
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE FIRST HALF OF 2019:
“If you want to touch the past, touch a rock. If you want to touch the present, touch a flower. If you want to touch the future, touch a life.” We hope that we are touching lives everyday through our programs, our messages and the relationships we have formed.
We kicked off this year with a ‘Fortnite Frenzy’. Six screens, six game consoles and teams took to the battle fields.
We hosted our fourth annual Prom Extrava-ganza and Military Ball Gown Event. This year we helped nearly 50 students with dresses, accessories, tuxedo gift cards, hair
and nail certificates and prom tickets.
We sponsored our first annual Senior Mom’s Breakfast, hosted our first ‘after prom breakfast’, and enjoyed time with several teams and organizations for their team dinners. We look forward to inviting more clubs/teams/organizations/groups to share our space and message with even
more young people. (Contact us if you’d like to have your group out)
Our high school group, The Sandbox at Hutto HS worked hard to bring some unity and kindness to the staff and students on their campus. They held a chilidog bar lunch, passed out pencils to stu-dents, passed around a coffee/snack cart, gave lunch bags and note-

our programs work. Check out our opportunities and let us know if
there is anything you are interested in.

From Our President: Hello friends, We hope you are enjoying a peaceful
summer spending quality time with friends and family. As you will see in
this mid-year newsletter The Sandbox at Madeline's Place continues
to change and develop in how we support and encourage our area teens around honesty, kindness and
speaking up for themselves and others.
We are particularly happy to report how our after school programs have
grown this year due to our new space and the flexibility it brings.
Attendance at our "Grades and Grub" tutoring (and fun) nights has doubled and we now have dedicated rooms for homework and art. We have outgrown our capacity to make one trip to pick
up teens after school in our van and now have to either make shuttle runs or enlist the help of additional staff. All of this is a
result of our partnership with the city of Hutto and supporters like you. We are so blessed to be in a community that
takes such an active interest in our teens, not only in words but in action. Several city council members, the mayor, the police and fire chiefs, leaders from our parks and rec depart-
ment and many others have all visited to see what we are doing in this house and to offer their support.
As a result of this partnership we are reaching more teens and
offering more programs than ever before. We simply can't say "thank you" often enough or loud enough but we will neverthe-
less keep trying. If you have teens in the Central Texas are we hope you'll come see us. If you don't have teens but have an in-
terest in the overall health and well being of teenagers, we hope you will come see us. Either way, we THANK YOU for taking the time to read this, for your support of the Sandbox and for
helping us share Madeline's enduring beauty and passion. Be Honest Be Kind Speak Up.

THANK YOU, A MILLION TIMES THANK YOU!
Our Sports Side:
Our Hippo Wrestling Club is on hiatus after losing its practice space. We are looking for a new place to continue impacting over
50 area youth with this program. The long term vision of the Sandbox has always been to build a large gym that would house
indoor basketball and volleyball courts, indoor sand courts, indoor track; as well as, space for other sports, such as wrestl ing, to
have the ability to run their programs. Our vision includes an opportunity for the gym to be self sustaining by hosting club teams
and tournaments. If you know of any funding sources and or laborers that would consider joining us in seeing our vision come to
life, please let us know!
Thank you to the City of
Hutto! We have been in our
new location for nearly one
year and have grown
exponentially! Thank you
for catching our vision and
supporting the work of
impacting youth.

This summer we hosted nearly 40
middle school girls for 4 weeks of
clinics and scrimmages. Coached by
former Hutto Hippo volleyball player,
Emerald Rosenbusch, the girls learned
and practiced the basics, played fun
skills games and participated in scrim-
mages. These clinics help prepare
these incoming 7th and 8th graders for
the upcoming volleyball season try-
outs. We ended the four week period
with a cookout and some fun sand
volleyball at our place.
