RECAP OF FROM LAST LECTURE
We are all striving to Allah – and we can see that this life is full of struggles, all of us have struggles. But
imagine what a waste of life if we are struggling for people, struggling for rank, struggling for
disobedience – alhamd Allah your struggle is worthwhile when it is for the sake of Allah.
And because this life is full of struggles, it is filled with trials, and we have to remain on the Straight
Path by following what ‘Allah says and the Messenger says’.
We mentioned two types of trials: trials of doubt and trials of desire – let us now look at the trials of
desire.
TRIAL OF DESIRES
Trial of desires is temptations / desires to disobey Allah. The person will be surrounded by temptations
depending on the person, either he is inclined to these temptations in his heart, or his heart is caged, is
guarded with taqwa.
There are different temptations, and the temptation is according to the person’s weakness.

WHO IS BEHIND THESE TEMPTATIONS?
The shaitan. The shaitan is always trying to make the human fail the trials, and the shaitan will make
these desires very tempting, and by making it beautiful. There is wisdom with the creation of the
shaitan – who will abstain from the temptation and submit to Allah, and who will surrender to the
temptation and follow the shaitan.
The shaitan is trying in every moment to make us fall into temptations. And he is tailoring it according
to what our self is inclined to. For example, those who love the duniya, the shaitan will make them
cause mischief on the earth.
HOW DOES MISCHIEF SPREAD ON THE EARTH?
By committing sins, like committing adultery, drinking, riba, etc – committing sins generally. And of
course the shaitan will beautify the sin and make it easy to commit the sin. We ask Allah to protect us.
Ameen.
Without realizing, people are harming society and harming the environment. The person will oppress
others, harm others, etc, and the trial of desires will divert the person from his purpose in life.
ALLAH GAVE US SHORTCUTS IN THIS LIFE – WHAT IS THIS SHORTCUT?
You are created to worship Allah alone. When a person falls into his desires and follows the shaitan, he
will be diverted away from his purpose, and busy with his desires.
The shaitan is displaying the haram in a beautiful way, and the person is inclined to harming others –
and of course this will make a person give up the prayer. Because they are wanting to give up and
complete their desires. We ask Allah to protect us. Ameen.
And when the person enters the fitna, the person is blind to it, when it is in front of his eyes, he cannot
see it as a trial, and rather he sees it as fulfilling a desire. ( بطن ما و مهنا ظهر ما الفتن من اعوذ اني اللهم ) (Oh
Allah we seek Your protection from all trials – those that are apparent and hidden.)

WHO IS AFFECTED BY THE TRIAL OF DESIRES?
Trial of Desires:
o People in general fall into it mischief on earth, sins and lusts
o Scholars, preachers, and seekers of knowledge the shaitan will not come from the angle of
committing adultery or drinking, rather the shaitan will beautify being successful in their field
for themselves and not for the deen.
The shaitan beautifies it so that they may become famous. And then his desire becomes
to wanting to be praised and elevated. The truthful ones will stop themselves from
falling into the trial and the liars will fail.
The shaitan will make them compete and fight with each other in order to be leaders
and have a title.
The shaitan will use them to make them fall into dispute and argument by making
dawah to someone who does not know. And they end up being very loud and quickly
fighting. The Prophet (pbuh) said if you leave an argument or dispute, even if you are in
the right, then Allah will build a house for you in paradise.

HOW CAN WE BE SAVED FROM THE TRIAL OF DESIRES?
Patience. Recall that the salvation for the:
o Trial of doubts: was following the truth, what Allah says and what the Messenger says.
o Trials of desires: you need patience and taqwa in order to safeguard your heart.
Some people think you need to get angry and raise your voice or spread mischief, but the solution is to
be patient.
And the solution to both of these types of trials can be found in Surah Al Asr. Subhan Allah.
Surah Al Asr: ()بر )٣ ت وتواصوا ب ٱلحق وتواصوا بٱلص ـ لح ـ ن لفى خسر )٢( إل ٱلذين ءامنوا وعملوا ٱلص ـ نس (وٱلعصر )١( إن ٱل
(By Al-'Asr (the time). (1) Verily, man is in loss, (2) Except those who believe and do righteous good
deeds, and recommend one another to the truth (i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good
deeds (Al-Ma'ruf) which Allâh has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-
Munkar) which Allâh has forbidden), and recommend one another to patience)
We ask Allah to protect us from the trial of doubts and to act in a way that will make us pass the trial. Ameen.
Oh Allah, increase us in guidance and keep us on the way of guidance until the last moment of our lives. We ask Allah for His forgiveness
and His Mercy. Anything that is good from these notes is from Allah. Any mistakes & misrepresentations are my own. I ask Allah for His
forgiveness and to put forgiveness in the hearts of those who read them. Ameen ya Rabb Al ‘Alameen.
