AimsBy the end of the lesson you should be able
to:
List the different types of lever
Describe how gravity and resistance can effect exercise
Apply an example from sport to each of the above

A Fatman Introduction

LeversWhat are they?
A long rigid rod that turns about a pivot or fulcrum
What would they be in the body?
Usually a bone (lever) that is turning about a joint (fulcrum)
3 types, arrangement of each part determines lever classification
![Page 8: Levers, resistance and exercise](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081422/556c1e06d8b42a8d648b47cc/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
1st Class LeverFulcrum is between the effort and load
See saw approach
The neck is a typical example
Resistance comes from head, with muscles in the neck giving the effort. Pivot Joint!

2nd Class LeverFulcrum at one end, effort at the other end &load is in between
Wheel Barrow
Standing calf raises in exercise
What impact would a heavier weight have?
![Page 10: Levers, resistance and exercise](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022081422/556c1e06d8b42a8d648b47cc/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
3rd Class LeverThe most commonly found in thebody
Fulcrum at one end, lever at the other end and effort in between
Similar to holding bag of sugar
Biceps curl (Think of muscle attachment!)
How can gravity effect this lever?

Task
How Can The Following Exercises Be Made Easier or More Difficult?
When applying your knowledge of levers, how can the exercises be made more difficult or easier? Give two different exercises below and explain how to
make (1) Easier, (2) Harder.
