New District Website in the Works
The Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools will soon unveil a new District website. The new website will provide users with a wealth of information about the District including event calendars, athletics, news and announcements, lunch menu, Skyward Family Access, faculty emails and much more. The new website will feature an Urgent Message option that will be displayed in the center of the page to alert parents to news and important information such as school closings or delays. The website will have a separate Athletics section to highlight all of our sports teams. Current game schedules and athletic practice schedules will be listed in this section. Check the “News & Announcements” link under Athletics for all the latest information.
Once it goes live, the new website can be reached at www.lakelinden.k12.mi.us.
A Word From the Superintendent
It is hard to believe that we are nearing Christmas break and shortly after, the end of our first semester (which will end on January 21
st with an in-service/records
day.) Before we know it another commencement ceremony will be taking place and the Class of 2011 will be moving on to other things. There have been a large number of activities taking place in both buildings. MEAP testing occurred during the last two weeks in October for grades 3-9 and we are anxiously awaiting those results. In the Elementary, two family nights have already taken place including Family Night at the School Forest in September, and our annual Christmas Family Art Night in December. Thanks to the PTO and G.E. for their support and a big thank you to all of the parents and students who attended these events. In the Middle School/High School we have seen a successful completion of the fall athletic schedule and a Veteran’s Day assembly presented by the Student Council, Lake Linden-Hubbell ROTC members, and area veterans on November 11
th. Also, I am looking forward to
our Christmas Concerts. On December 19 the 7th-12
th
grade Choir and the 6th-12
th grade Bands will perform at
2:00 p.m. in the auditorium and on December 22, the Elementary Concert will be at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium. I would like to offer a big thank you to Ms. Perfetti and Mrs. Johnson-Fritz for the time, effort and thoughtfulness that they put into their concerts. Due to technological advances, the school district is constantly struggling to provide updated technology to our students. This year, two computer labs were replaced and data projectors were mounted in the classrooms. However, to provide students with the best possible education and to keep up with neighboring schools, it is necessary to continue adding to the school’s improvements by completing the advancements in each classroom with “smart” technology that includes document cameras and white boards. Another related goal is to someday add a data projector and large retractable screen to the auditorium. The Lake Linden-Hubbell Public School Foundation is currently conducting a fundraising drive for technology by contacting past donors. The time that the Foundation has put into helping the school move forward in this and other areas as well as donations that we have received from our alumni and the community is greatly appreciated. Together we can make great things happen for our students. Please feel free to call me with any questions or concerns. I can be reached at 296-6211. Also, look for our new website which is due to go live very soon.. You can reach it at www.lakelinden.k12.mi.us.

Lake Linden-Hubbell Students Participate in Honor Band
On the weekend of December 3 - 4, Senior Band Members, Ashley Normand and Curtis Audette, attended the 2010 MSBOA District 14 Honor Band in Negaunee. Students from across the central and western Upper Peninsula auditioned to be in the band in October. Ashley was chosen to play in the flute section while Curtis was chosen to play in the trombone section. They met with the other selected students for the first time on Friday morning, rehearsed all day, spent the night in Marquette, rehearsed again on Saturday morning, and then performed an outstanding concert on that afternoon in the new Negaunee High School Auditorium. The band was conducted by Joan Petrelius, the former Chassell High School Band Director and MSBOA Clinician.

Alumni Spotlight
Logan Chadde, 2009 Lake Linden-Hubbell graduate and currently a sophomore at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, recently had the opportunity to travel to South Africa for five weeks. During the months of July and August, Chadde traveled to South Africa through the Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates (GIEU) program at the University of Michigan with fifteen other UM students and a faculty leader. The purpose of the trip was to interact with all the stakeholders involved with road safety in South Africa, including children, government officials, university faculty and students, and citizens. During the course of the trip, he visited many schools to talk about road safety, speaking to over 2,000 total students. The group also visited a number of cultural sites, such as museums, landmarks, popular restaurants, Soccer City stadium, and Kruger National Park. In addition, each student lived with a South Africa family for two weeks in both locations - a particularly rewarding experience according to Chadde. A short documentary about the experiences can be found online at bit.ly/GIEU-SA10. To read more about his experiences and to view more photos, check out the blog at loganchadde.wordpress.com. Chadde would also like to make himself available to any LLHS students or parents that have questions about studying abroad. He can be contacted at [email protected].
If you know of a Lake Linden-Hubbell alumni who has had an amazing experience that we could highlight in the “Alumni Spotlight,” please send your idea to the Superintendent’s Office at the Lake Linden-Hubbell Schools or you may send an email to Lori LaRoux at [email protected].
Voice of Democracy Winner
Congratulations to sophomore student, Kendall Sarazin, for winning the VFW’s “Voice of Democracy” writing competition. The title of her essay was “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?” She was invited to speak at the VFW meeting on December 9.
