Smoke AlarmsSmoke alarms are tools that can tell ifthere is smoke in the air. They work even
if you can't smell smoke. A smoke alarmlooks like a small dish or dinner plate onthe ceiling of your home!
A smoke alarm makes a very loud beep-ing noise to warn you that a fire hasstarted. When you hear the loud noise, follow your home escape plan and getout fast.
Fire Escape Plan
If you are woken up by the sound of your smoke alarm or by the
sound of what you think is a fire, remember:
Stay calm. Wake all the members of your family.
Make your way out together, through the nearest exit.
Do not open any doors other than the ones you need to es-cape through.
If a door feels hot DO NOT open it.
When everyone is safely outside, call the Fire & RescueService from a public telephone or a neighbour's house.
DO NOT GO BACK TO THE HOUSE for any reason untilthe Fire & Rescue Service tells you it is safe to do so.
Use the map on the opposite page to plan an escape route fromthe house.

Do you know how fire burns?
Every fire needs :
Heat Fuel Air
Heat, fuel and air are called the Triangle of Fire. If we re-move any one of these things the fire will go out.
If you squirt water on a fire it turns to steam and takes awaythe heat. The fire then cools down and goes out.
If you cover a candle flame and keep out the air this will not
allow the fire to breathe and the candle will go out.
If you bake with a gas cooker and turn off the gas, you areremoving the fuel. The gas flame will go out.
The Triangle Of Fire
Fire is a bit like us - wealso need heat to keep uswarm. Food for fuel to feedus and air to breathe.
