I would like to extend heartfelt congratulations on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan which includes Lailat Al-Qadr – “Al-Qadr night” – which is equal to one thousand months in terms of worship. Ramadan is the month of mercy, condonation and free from hell. It is a month in which we renew the spirit of determination and seriousness to achieve the desired goals. Consequently, we hope you to intensify your devoted efforts to carry out the oil sector’s 2030 strategy which is allotted to underpin the status of Kuwait internationally as a key player in the petroleum industry. The Kuwaiti oil sector is currently confronting big challenges among which the step of re-arranging the house from inside in line with the ambitions of the new phase on the short and long run. This matter needs doubling efforts sincerely and reinforcing the concepts of one spirit as well as prioritizing the public good.On the external level, the entire world confronts ostensibly several financial crises which jeopardize the growth of the international economy and consequently the demand on oil; therefore, it is necessary to allot forward-looking plans based on clear visions for the future. Furthermore, the political incidents taking place in the Arab world influence negatively the stability of the positions in the region. Thereof, it is necessary to intensify effort to preserve the achievements fulfilled in the Kuwaiti oil industry and bolster its status internationally.

is month of holy Qur'anRamadanAllah, the Most Merciful, granted us in
our life seasons in which we can wor-
ship Him to be much closer to Him.
In these seasons, we are provided with
various kinds of worship, in addition
that it is stated in the Holy
Qur’an that Allah created mankind
and Jinn to only worship Him. This
worship eliminates from our hearts the
traces of sins, moreover, Allah increas-
es our good points through these wor-
ships by which mercies are bestowed
on us. In addition, determination be-
comes much stronger to perform these
worships as our prophet (PBUH) or-
dered us. Brothers and sisters, we have
received a blessed and great month; it
is the holy month of Ramadan which
is the month of the holy Qur’an. It has
a night is better than one thousand or-
dinary nights. We witness this month
once every year, Allah made fast a
religious obligation in it and perform-
ing prayers in its nights is obedience,
therefore we should not be careless
towards it or miss this opportunity
through play or entertainment. In fact,
some people converted their worship
into habit through performing it typi-
cally and repeatedly without rever-
ence, therefore our fast should be wor-
ship not habit and this can be achieved
through being committed to the fol-
lowing matters:
Firstly: Sincerity and eagerness to
Allah satisfaction; this item can be
achieved during worshipping specially
while fasting through intention placed
I n T h i s I s s u e
KPC NEWS 9KP NNNNNNNNNPC N 99KPPC NEWS 9
in heart to fast, in addition that Muslim
fasts to seek Allah satisfaction and His
obedience as the prophet (PBUH) said
that deeds are measured in line with
beforehand intention and the Muslim
who fasts patiently seeking the con-
tentment of Allah; He ‘ Allah’ will
keep that fasting Muslim who fasted
one day for Him away from Hell on
a distance of seventy autumns; how-
ever this good point is said is in favor
of Jihad for Islam. It is also said Al-
lah keeps him far away from Hell on
a distance of one hundred years. It is
mentioned Allah rewards that fasting
one through making a ditch between
the latter and Hell the same as the dis-
tance between heaven and land.
Secondly: Piety; we have seriously to
seek it because it is the ultimate goal
we aim at through fast. Piety means to
do what Allah orders us to do asking
His virtues, in addition to refraining
ourselves from doing sins fearing His
punishment.
Thirdly: It is better to perceive good
return and remember the several vir-
tues of fast throughout the whole
month as the prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) was quoted saying that Mus-
lim who fasted faithfully Ramadan
seeking Allah satisfaction, all his ear-
lier sins are forgiven.
Moreover, Allah said all man’s deeds
are in his favor except fast; it is for
Him’ Allah’ and He rewards in ac-
cordance with it. “The faster deprives
himself of food and drink for Me,
therefore I double good points
up to seven hundred times as fast is
for Me and I reward worshipper in
accordance with it,’’ Allah said in
His Holy hadith. Our prophet told his
companions that when the first night
of Ramadan approaches, all devils are
shackled, all Hell doors are closed, all
Paradise doors are opened and a caller
says loudly in the beginning, middle
and end of Ramadan; Oh, seeker of
good deeds come closely and Oh,
seeker of evil keep away.”
Furthermore, we have to pay atten-
tion to what the prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) said as he unveiled Allah
releases people from Hell every night.
The messenger of revelation ‘Jibreel’
told the prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
that the loser is the one who witnessed
Ramadan till its end without gaining
Allah pardon for his sins, adding the
loser also is the one who was contem-
porary of his parents’ lives when they
are very old and lost their satisfaction
which is his way to Paradise, how-
ever ‘Jibreel’ asked the prophet to say
Amen and he said it.
Fourthly: Among the reasons pre-
vent from converting this worship into
habit are contemplation during the
worship and thinking over the pulpit
of unifying Muslim people, condoling
paupers, the influence of hunger and
thirst and controlling one’s self…etc.
Fifthly: Do not make your worship
in Ramadan only fasting; it is better
to vary your worship such as reciting
the Holy Qur’an, performing nightly
prayers, granting alms, feeding needy
and so on.
Sixthly: We have to remember that
these days are numerable and price-
less chances should be utilized in
good deeds as Allah orders us in the
Holy Qur’an to contest in doing good
deeds to win Paradise and His forgive-
ness. Brothers and sisters, the matter
is easy for the one Allah eased it for
him, therefore we have to take a se-
rious stance to avoid converting this
worship into habit. We have to mull
the requirements of this worship as it
is a great month and honorable guest
we have to glorify. We hope Allah to
accept our good deeds and worship in
Ramadan.

Authority (EPA) pays special concern
to the public reserves and Sabah Al-
Ahmad Reserve in particular, disclos-
ing the country has a plan aimed to
establish 5 new reserves; Umm Al-

er of Equate for Environment Consul-
tation Institution, threw more light on
Failaka Island, indicating it is located
on a distinguished site which has es-
sential ecological characterizations.
“This island can bring more national
income to the country and refresh
the ecological tourism if it is invest-
ed appropriately,” noted he, adding
Umm Al-Naml Island has also distin-
guished biological specifications as it

animals confront several dangers
among which inequitable pasture and
hunting, misuse of lands and waste,
pointing out that Jahra Reserve plays
an important role in preserving the
migrant birds from the hazard of
hunting.

Tips to keep fit during
the holy month of Ramadan
Fast is important to the human body as it renews and
activates the ability of the body to interact with the
various physiological changes during the holy month
of Ramadan. In addition, the period of fast enables
the person to lose overweight in case the person fol-
lows the correct nutritional habits and avoids the bad
habits which lead to obesity which endangers nearly
99% of people in the Middle East, as per statistics,
owing to the meals which are full of fats and desserts
which contain high percentage of calories which they
have during Ramadan.
The following is a group of tips for the best health-
ful nutritional habits which should be followed during
the holy month of Ramadan to keep fit:
Juices and drinks
Most experts of nutrition stressed the necessity of
having natural juices such as lemon, guava or orange
as much as possible during Ramadan to keep fit, indi-
cating the artificial juices which cause hike in blood
pressure and increase the percentage of minerals in
the body.
Desserts
Man can eat whatever he wants from desserts; how-
ever, experts of nutrition indicated that the most ap-
propriate time to have desserts is three hours after
KPC NEWS 13KP NNNNNNNNNPC N 333KPPC NEWS 3
having breakfast after the stomach manages to digest
food well. They clarified that the mistake of having
big quantities of desserts after breaking the fast di-
rectly leads to storing extra amount of fats under the
skin; the matter increases weight, blood pressure and
cholesterol.
Having food
Following the “Sunna” of Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH), experts recommend breaking the fast early
and having “Sohour” – the late meal before starting
fast – late considering such step necessary to digest
food properly and avoid obesity.
Dates with milk
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “To break your
fast, it is recommended to have a date because
it is blessing, or start with drinking water as it is
purifier.”
Experts of nutrition stressed the importance of hav-
ing dates with milk provided the number of dates is
two and milk should be skim, adding dates with milk
help activate the blood circulation of large and pre-
cise intestines; therefore, it protects the body from
constipation. It also provides the body with energy
which bans man from having much food. They advise
people who are interested in losing weight quickly to
have warm soup which is considered one of the most
important stimulants of the stomach to start perform-
ing its activity.
“Sohour” is necessary for fitness
Sohour is important for the digestive system as it acti-
vates it and balances the level of sugar in blood during
fast as food is distributed through two meals instead
of one. It is important also to distribute meals during
Ramadan adequately, because devouring food after
feeling hungry leads to having bigger quantities.
Avoid watching TV when you eat
Having food while watching TV is one of the key ele-
ments which cause obesity in the Middle East because
man is not able to identify the amount of food he/she
eats.
Having yeast in Ramadan
Experts of nutrition advise people to have 3 tablets of
yeast half an hour before having the meal of breakfast
and Sohour. This leads to:
Feeling full throughout the daytime.1.
Losing weight.2.
Reducing the feeling of tiredness, as it has 3.
vitamin B.

Kuwait Petroleum Corporation
(25999) Business Continuity Management Standard
British Standard 25999, which was
initially applied in 2006, is aimed
to assess the ability of the instal-
lation, the sector or the company
to perform its duties and basic
services during emergency condi-
tions. It is tasked with keeping the
business continuity management
particularly during emergency.
Therefore, all authorities need
necessarily to apply it to keep
their commercial reputation. Six
years later on, ISO 22301, which
is similar to BS25999, emerged to
contest in this field; however, it fo-
cuses on the administrative side.
Getting BS25999 indicates that
the institution is distinguished
with high operational efficiency
and ability to handle ideologically
all kinds of accidents and crises.
In addition, this means that it has
all requirements needed to per-
form activities and provide prod-
ucts and services.
Regardless the mechanisms and
ways used to control or trim down
the amount of risks and accidents;
it is not possible to expect any of
them, as all emergencies or ac-
cidents may lead to a breakdown
because of a technical, natural or
deliberate reason.
In this context, the concerned au-
thorities deal with the institution
which gets harmed through as-
sessing three key elements as fol-
lows:
Employees1.
Buildings2.
Operations 3.
As per the first item, employees
can be influenced by some factors
among which:
Contagious diseases•
Strikes •
With regard to the second item;
buildings may confront a natural
disaster like earthquake or any
emergency that necessitate evacu-
ating it and suspending according-
ly work; therefore, it is necessary
to allot arrangements and appro-
priate solutions in this regard.
As for the third item, operations
include all equipments and sys-
tems which hinder work in case of
any breakdown or emergency.
Employees: This element is the
basic factor of any institution.
Employees can be influenced by
infectious diseases or strikes and
other affairs which may refrain
from performing their work. Con-
sequently, it is necessary to provide
alternatives and plans to manage
this suspension. In fact, internal
training courses that are organized
among departments and sections
in collaboration with other institu-
tions are necessary for employees
to manage such emergencies.
Buildings: This is an important el-
ement. It is not however possible
to expect some risks which may
be natural or deliberate regard-
less the preciseness of the safety
procedures which are taken in this
domain.
If a strong natural disaster may hit
the institution, work is suspended
automatically; the matter neces-
KPC NEWS 15KP NNNNNNNNNPC N 555KPPC NEWS 5
sitates allotting precautionary
procedures and arrangements in
advance besides providing appro-
priate alternatives such as secur-
ing the site. Some business can be
fulfilled through the internet with-
out obligating the employees to be
in office.
Operations: This element includes
all equipments and systems be-
sides other elements which para-
lyze the institution in case they
sustain any defect or breakdown.
Therefore, it is necessary to allot
appropriate solutions for each el-
ement. Providing substitute sys-
tems in other safe site enables the
institution to resume its activities
in case of any emergency without
losing data.
There are several preparatory
procedures that should be taken
before allotting the business con-
tinuity plan. These procedures in-
clude analyzing and managing the
risks; the matter helps handle or
trim down the influence of these
risks.
After identifying the risks, the
institution conducts a business
impact analysis through which it
identifies its operations, services
and products. After that, it identi-
fies the important elements whose
suspension may influence nega-
tively the society and the com-
mercial side of the institution; the
matter may lead to losing the trust
of customers.
After identifying the basic and
necessary tasks or services re-
quired for the institution during
emergencies, the institution as-
sesses the minimum percentage
of resources required to continue
work during emergencies and cri-
ses. After that, a team is formed
for each task and all teams are
connected together through a
business continuity plan.
It is worth mentioning that all data
and information are documented
to be used as a reference or feed-
back to confront any other emer-
gency.
I hope that I managed to clarify
the importance of allotting a busi-
ness continuity plan and its ben-
efits during emergencies.
