In a flat model database, there are twodimensional (flat structure) arrays of data.
For instance, there is one column ofinformation and within this column it isassumed that each data item will be related
to the other.

The hierarchical model database resembles a
tree like structure, such as howMicrosoft Windows organizes folders and files. In a hierarchical model database, each upward
link is nested in order to keep data organized ina particular order on a same level list. Forinstance, a hierarchal database of sales, maylist each days sales as a separate file. Within
this nested file are all of the sales (same typesof data) for the day.

In a network model, the definingfeature is that a record is stored with a
link to other records in effectnetworked. These networks (orsometimes referred to as pointers) canbe a variety of different types ofinformation.

The relational model is the most populartype of database and an extremelypowerful tool, not only to store information,
but to access it as well. Relationaldatabases are organized as tables. Thebeauty of a table is that the informationcan be accessed or added without
reorganizing the tables. A table can havemany records and each record can havemany fields.

How is data organized at home, in theoffice or in school for the past few yearsand compare it to the present times; is
there any difference?
