Ulam sektr, gnmzde insanlarademiryolu, denizyolu, havayolu gibi olduka fazlaseenek sunmasna ramen, lkemizde daha ok
"karayolu ulam" tercih edilmektedir. lkemizdeyolcu ve yk tamaclnn youn bir ekilde karayoluyla yaplmas, buna parelel olarak gvenli birtrafik ortamnn tam olarak salanamamas, trafikkazalarnn daha sk olmasna neden olmaktadr.Trafik kazalar sonucunda da; lmler,yaralanmalar, sakat kalmalar, byk ekonomikkayplar meydana gelmektedir.
Although transportation sector presents a lot ofalternative modes like sea, railway and airline, inTurkey mostly road transportation is preferred.The
dominant role of road transport in passenger andcargo transportation and the level of safety intraffic environment which is not fully parallel to thisdominancy, causes more frequent traffic accidents.Traffic accidents results in deaths, injuries,disabled persons and enormous economical losses.
Gvenli bir trafik ortamnn salanabilmesi iin;sorumlu kurulularn olaanst abalar yannda,basn ve yayn kurulularnn katk lar,
toplumumuzdaki src, yolcu, yaya ve kurumsalbilinlenmeyi belirli bir dzeye getirmitir. Bununsonucunda, son yllardaki kaza trendinde azalmagrlmesine ramen, trafik kazalar lkemizinncelikli problemleri arasnda yerini halenkorumaktadr.
In order to provide a safe traffic environment,extraordinary efforts of responsible organizationsand the support of media lead up to a higher level
of awareness among drivers, pedestrians,passengers and institutions. Consequently in lastyears a decline observed in traffic accident trends,however, traffic accidents still remain as one of themost primary problems in Turkey.

In order to provide traffic confidence in ourcountry as much as measures necessary to take, itis unavoidable that the detailed statisticalinformation important characteristic for theinvestments made so that, this publication is
prepared to direct traffic activities, provide safetytraffic environment, determine lacking about trafficrules respond the necessity of statisticalinformation.

1. Tarihe 1. Background
Trafik kazalarna ilikin veriler 1955 ylndan itibarenderlenmeye balanmtr. Veriler, 1988 ylna kadar
Trkiye statistik Kurumu (TK) tarafndan hazrlananbir formla derlenmekte iken, bu yldan itibaren EmniyetGenel Mdrl ile yaplan protokol gerei, ilgili GenelMdrle bal BM Daire Bakanlndan manyetikortamda temin edilmekteydi.
Data in the road traffic accidents have beencompiled since 1955. This data which is prepared with
a form by Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) iscompiled since 1988. From this year, with a protocolbetween State Institute of Statistics and GeneralDirectorate of Public Security has been evaluated thestatistical information in the magnetic forms fromInformation Process Center of General Directorate ofPublic Security.
1998 ylna kadar Jandarma sorumluluk blgesindemeydana gelen trafik kazalarna ait veriler, EmniyetGenel Mdrl taraf ndan derlenmekte iken, bu
tarihten itibaren Jandarma Genel Komutanl tarafndanda ayr olarak derlenmeye balanmtr.
Until 1998, statistical data on traffic accidentswithin the Gendarmery responsibility area has beencompiled by the General Directorate of Security Affairs.
After that date, these data have been compiled byGeneral Command of Gendarmery.
2000 ylndan itibaren trafik kazas tespit tutanaklarlml-yaralanmal kazalar iin ayr, maddi hasarlkazalar iin ayr olmak zere iki ayr formattadzenlenerek veriler derlenmeye balanmtr.
