Jules Quesnel Division 1 Info for the Week of
June 09, 2014
Last week, we...
changed the seating plan.
The intent was to keep the grade 6s together as it helps them be part of the conversation.
Is also allows the grade 7s to finish the year together before they part in three weeks.
I also wanted the students to have a word in where they were going to sit
We created our schedule of the day.
Students are at different places in their work and have different needs.
The intent is to bring students to think about their needs, negotiate with their peers on the work to be done when ( they prepare for the debate #2 in teams, for instance ) and have their say in how the day is shaped, instead of being criticizing consumers.
We read to start the afternoon.
Some students had difficulty on this one and just played games. The use of smart devices for learning is based on trust. We are not there yet as a class.
We worked independently as I met with students on an individual basis.
When I meet with students, we look back at the term. I want them to think about themselves as learners and own the learning.
In concrete terms, it means we look at ● what we are proud of● what we could improve on● what we bring to the class● what we bring to the school
This is combined with the ongoing feedback on students work as shared in the multiple Google Docs.
In the end, it becomes the introductory comment of the report.
We were active outside between 1400 and 1420.
We wrote creatively with Ms. Roos.
We helped our grade 3 buddies with multimedia.
We forgot a few iPads in the Learning Commons with no one around.( many thanks to Mme Angèle )
I created a work guide students can make a copy of and link to my feedback.
We went in the forest to continue our study of ecosystems.
We interacted with living organisms.
We lead our activity in PE.
And we did our best to complete our class responsibility.
Varia ● Ms Roos will not come back to class as she will meet many families to write the IEPs
What’s coming● Grade 6 Catch up Immunization Clinic, Monday June 09● Debates #2, this week● Strike on Wednesday June 11● Sports Day, Tuesday June 17 ( Wednesday June 18 in case of rain )● Grade 7 School-Leaving Ceremony, date now unknown as Kits HS has just sent an orientation
invitation to their future grade 7s on Thursday June 19● Kits HS orientation, Thursday June 19, 0915● Last day of school, Thursday June 26 ( full day )
What you can do at home to support learning● continue to have a conversation around the work not in ● continue to have your child spend some time doing work at home. Half an hour to an hour
seems reasonable to me.
