Excerpts from Swamiji’s discourses on Ashtavakra Gita:Ashtavakra Gita is unlike Bhagavad Gita. In Bhagavad Gita the teacher was the Godhead Bhagavan Krishna himself and the student was Arjun, confused on the battlefield. Arjuna had to achieve some-thing, decide something, find out something, succeed something, fight out something. And the King Janaka had none of these problems. The quality of both these students were poles apart. One was hav-ing problems in the outer world, the second one, Janaka the King, had no problems in the outer world.
And this is our story. When we are in our younger days we have got many dreams, friends, enemies, achievements, failures, struggles, action, doing this, doing that, and then we want to fight out with the world. Anybody can do fighting out in the world. It is not a big deal. The real challenge comes never from the outer world. The real challenge comes in our life from within.
A stage comes in our life when we are no more influenced or affected by the world in terms of security, in terms of homes, relations, name and fame, money. Everything we have. There is nothing lacking and yet we are not at peace with ourselves. And as a result we keep on struggling.
Ashtavakra Gita is addressed to such a person!
