KISHTWAR, JUNE21: The challenge of makingprovision of adequate watersupply in this water scarcedistrict during and postlockdown was ably met,thanks to the extra effortsput in by the PHE depart-ment.

The department man-aged the smooth supply ofthe water for commonmasses as the pandemic ne-cessitated the same tomaintain the physical hy-giene by frequent handwashing and cleanliness ofdaily usage items likeclothes and mask etc.

The Department alsomade all the necessaryarrangements for supply of

clean and fresh drinkingwater to minimize thechances of spread of otherwater borne diseases, whichcould become the easy sus-ceptibility to the COVID in-fection.

“March and April monthsin this area witness torren-tial rains and it was a chal-lenging task for the depart-ment to ensure theuninterrupted supply of wa-ter as damage to the gravitylines passing through theforest and rocky areas dueto landslide becomes in-evitable,” said Xen PHEKishtwar N K Gupta.

For this reason, the watertanker arrangements weremade for maintaining sup-

ply to the shortage prone ar-eas such as main town andadjoining areas of town, hesaid.

In addition to it about,200 tankers of water weresupplied to the quarantinecenters during the lock-down to augment the regu-lar supply.

To overcome problem ofshortage of workforce, fieldfunctionaries were campednear the work places andthe movement passes wereissued to ensure the unin-terrupted execution of es-sential repairment works.

With the start of Unlockmeasures in the district, thedepartment has restartedwork on different schemes

including mega projectsunder Jal Jivaan Mission inBlock Drabshalla ,Trigamand Thakrie along with theprestigious Naigarh WSSproject and other underlanguishing project.

As per the department,besides these, 20 languish-ing works have been re-sumed with an expeditiouspace with due observance ofprecautionary measures tobring the tangible results atthe gross root level in a timebound manner. Under Backto village programme, 51works costing Rs 2.53 crorewere taken up in the year2019 and majority of themhave been completed in astipulated time.

Irked over frequent un-scheduled power cuts,Young Panthers todaystaged protest demonstra-tion against the administra-tion of Jammu and KashmirUnion Territorry

over frequent power cutsacross the district.

The protest was held un-der the leadership of PartapSingh Jamwal (Sr. YPLeader, JKNPP), BhanuPartap Goria (PresidentJammu West YP) and ArunMehra (Distt. Vice Presi-dent YP) demanding unin-terrupted power supply.

YP activists shouted slo-gans against UT adminis-tration of J&K UT andPower Development De-partment (PDD) and raisedslogans against them hereat Jammu.

Partap Singh Jamwal al-leged that there has been nopower supply to them for

most of the time as apartfrom unscheduled powercuts.

Partap said that Centralgoverment put tall claims ofhuge power generations butyet have not got acquaintedwith the state of power sup-ply in the UT and only deliv-ering sermons of develop-ment sitting in AC rooms.

He said these days whenthe temperature is crossingplus 42°C mark, the depart-ment had failed to ensure itsregular supply.

Bhanu Partap Goriaalso addresed and said thatthe dangling wires are pos-

ing a threat to the lives ofpeople Ward No. 14 Bhag-wati Nagar. He accused thatPower Development De-partment (PDD) has failedto repair the electric wires inthe area which are openlyhanging from past morethan one year and 6months. He said “situationis very bad in the ward, elec-tric wires are hanging every-where used instead of elec-tric poles. YP leader warnedthe administration to im-prove the power supply insuch scorching heat unlessadministration have to bearthe brunt of public anger.

In view of the present sit-

As part of InternationalYoga Day celebration, Sam-agra Shiksha in associationwith Arogya Bharti and Ra-dio Big FM organized liveYoga sessions at SRMLHigher Secondary SchoolJammu.

Maintaining social dis-tancing; the experts fromArogya Bharti conductedhalf an hour session per-forming different Aasanasand illustrating their healthbenefits.

The session was joined byProject Director, SamagraShiksha Dr. Arun Manhasand senior staff of Radio92.7 Big FM (RelianceGroup).

The live session, whichwas streamed through Digi-tal Educational Platform,J&K Knowledge Networkand Facebook Pages ofSamagra Shiksha as well asBig FM, was attended bystudents, teachers and par-ents from across the UT.

The experts demon-strated different Aasanasstarting from ‘Surya Na-maskar’ to Bhujangasana(Cobra Pose) and explainedthat this ancient form of fit-ness with roots in India fo-cuses on developing mentaland physical balance be-sides boosting strength andflexibility. The session pro-gressed with Padmasana,Bharadvaja's Twist and Ka-paal Bharti techniques.

Meanwhile, acting on thedirections of Principal Sec-

retary School Education, DrAsgar Samoon, an onlinecompetition was organizedby Samagra Shiksha inwhich 300 videos display-ing different Yoga Aasanaswere received from the stu-dents of classes 6th to 12thfrom all the districts includ-ing Kashmir division whichwere being evaluated toscreen the winners.

Dr. Asgar Samoon con-gratulated Samagra Shik-sha for organizinge suchevents and involving stu-dents in curricular activitiesespecially in the period ofCOVID crisis.

He stated that practicingYoga is said to come withmany benefits for bothmental and physical health.“Learning Yoga at an earlyage can have enormous ad-vantages on the general well-being as well as the pros-perity of the students”, headded.

Dr. Samoon stressed thatteachers must encouragetheir students to practiceYoga and other physicalworkouts right from theearly age.

Samagra Shiksha celebrates International Yoga Day

KALAKOTE, JUNE 21: 7-daysonline workshop on “Yoga and Well-ness” organized by GDC Kalakote incollaboration with EBSB to commem-orate 6th International Yoga Day,2020, which commenced on June 15,today gets concluded. The workshophas fulfilled it’s purpose to make par-ticipants aware about importance ofdifferent Yoga asanas and make themlearn the systematic way to processthem.

A total of 252 participants registeredfor this workshop from all over thecountry and took part in many eventssuch as Essay Competition, Postermaking Competition, quiz competi-tion, Collage making competition etc.conducted during this workshop veryenthusiastically.

While seeing the prevailing pan-demic situation of COVID-19, theWorkshop was organised on the offi-cial Facebook page of GDC kalakote.Everyday in the morning session ofworkshop, participants were demon-strated different forms of yoga like

“Pranayama”, “yoga nidra”, “ashtangayoga”, “tratak”etc. by different yogainstructors . The afternoon session ofeach day of workshop witnessedbrainstorming Lectures from differ-ent eminent speakers invited fromPhysical Education field from all overthe country. The sessions covered dif-ferent topics each day like “Importantof yoga”, “Drug abuse and YouthHealth”, “Hypokinetic diseases andways to overcome them”, “COVID-19and Yoga”, “Detoxification of bodywith traditional methods”, “Nutritionfor optimum health” etc.

The valedictory session was held on-line on GDC official Facebook page.While welcoming the participants andchief guests, Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Ku-mar Sharma, Principal GDC Kalakote,highlighted all the activities and ini-tiatives taken by GDC Kalakote dur-ing the workshop. He presented theoverview of all those activities con-ducted during all the sessions of work-shop.

All the sessions of this workshop

were enjoyed very actively by Prof.Shalabh, IIT Kanpur, Prof. RahulGupta, UGC-HRDC, JU, Dr. AijazAhmed Hakak, Joint secretary, BOSE,Srinagar, Prof. Shujaut Kahan, Prof,GDC Hiranagar, Dr. Surinder Kapahi,

Department of Agriculture, Dr.Jasvinder Singh, Assistant Prof., Govt.M. A. M college , Dr Harbajan Singh,Dr. Vimal, Dr Vishal Joined fromUSA. They all appreciated the partici-pation from different parts of the

country and Principal GDC Kalakote,Dr. Romesh kumar Gupta,the con-venor of this workshop Dr. Dinesh ku-mar Sharma, and the whole faculty ofGDC Kalakote for their efforts in or-ganising such knowledgeable and in-teresting workshop. They were of viewthat such kind of workshops should beorganized in future also.

Participants also have shown theirsatisfaction in respect of the content,delivery and presentations of all thetopics covered during the workshop.

Later the principal, GDC Kalakote,announced the winners of all the ac-tivities held during the workshop. Itis pertinent to mention that SrishtiRawat from HNB Garhwal Universitysecured first position while NehaSindhwal, D. A. V. (PG) college,Dehradun and Umang thusoo, P. G,English Department, GCW Parade,secured second and third position re-spectively in Essay Competition.

In Poster Competition, SurbhiRaina from GDC Kalakote, FaizAhmed from GDC Kalakote and Bhu-

mika ,GDC Kalakote, secured first,second and third position respec-tively.

First position in Collage competi-tion was secured by the collage byGDC Kalakote Faculty while secondposition was secured by Dr. Harbha-jan Singh, Asst. professor, GDC Now-shera and third position secured byMadhotra family of Ramnagar.

In the last , Dr. Dinesh KumarSharma, Physical Educational Direc-tor, GDC Kalakote and also the con-venor of the workshop presented hisvote of thanks to all the participants,Chief guests, Principal GDC Kalakote,Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta and all thefaculty members of GDC Kalakote,Prof.Sachin Kumar bhagat, Prof.Anayat Ullah khan, Dr.Afa Dul, Dr.Pinkey Rakwal, Prof. Sanjogita., Dr.Mushtaq Ahmed, Prof. ShivaniThakur, Prof. Esha Bhagat, LibrarianRuchika and Manoj Kumar Sharmafor participating and appreciating theworkshop and thus making the work-shop successful.

On line InternationalYoga day was celebrated byZone Miran Sahib under thepatronage of Worthy Direc-tor General Youth Services& Sports J&K UT, under thesupervision of DYSSO Sh.Sukhdev Sharma.

Overall 300 students &non students drawn fromtwenty five institutions ,in-cluding one Higher Sec-ondary, nine HighSchools,fifteen MiddleSchools took part in themega event.

A sense of awareness re-garding the guidelines of so-cial distancing was seen.

All the field staff of zoneMiran Sahib participants &even some families partici-pated in the mega eventfrom their home and up-loaded their videos andpic's. A feel like Yoga culturerather mass movement wasobserved.

ZPEO Mr. Rakesh Kakarconducted the proceedingsand thanked the active fieldstaff, all participants viz stu-dents and non-students &especially littles performingshoulder to shoulder withtheir parents,who were thbie main attraction of theevent.
